Is my w800i locked?

How can I tell if my w800i is locked? I typed "> * < < * < *" into it without a SIM card, and under SIM lock there is a lock and the a 5 beside each icon. The lock appears to be open though.

However when I turn on the phone with my SIM card in it I can't send/ receive calls and I just get a "Not available" message. It also says "Inactive SIM" where the operator logo should be. Is the phone locked?

I got it from a friend, with no box, charger, just the phone. I thought something was up... I guess I'll have to give it back to him.

He could of said it was lost/stolen to his network to get a new phone.

Hhmm, well thats to bad.. I was really starting to like the phone. :( Is there anything I can do with the phone besides give it back?

No, it becomes an expensive MP3 player and camera otherwise. It is no use as a phone.
