It looks like its a slider phone and good to me. In the 2nd picture, the battery icon is so small that I think the phone has a VGA Resolution Display. The Walkman player looks fantastic. I hope it real.

even though i didnt believe it first and i did make that post, inside i did feel most blurred out fuzzy pictures of SE prototypes do turn out to be the real thign in the end. so not surprised.

i dislike teh design, the buttons on the top are way too small, and for some reason it just looks really awkward.

There are new pictures (http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=3499&hl=) of Cyndi (the slider) available. The new pictures seem to be of non-final design hardware, based on what I've seen. We'll certainly know more for sure soon enough....

Without going into details, it has a really freaking sweet spec sheet.

What's the official name then?

Some of the pics are named W850, but then last year the W900 was named W850

it has a really freaking sweet spec sheet

Hmm...That good huh?

Without going into details

We don't mind!:p

@Michael

From what I've heard the specifications aren't all that exciting, not uber high-end anyway.

What's the official name then?

Some of the pics are named W850, but then last year the W900 was named W850I can't say what the name is, but nobody should be too shocked.

As to the specs, I'm pleased with the outcome. We're not talking 4 megapixel cameras and WiFi and such, but for the size of the device and everything, I think it's a good deal.

But then again, I am a bit more of a realist when it comes to such things than most people here are. So maybe you guys will be disappointed. Who knows?

I think some people have a tendency to expect uber high-end specifications. :p

Gee, I love it when I wake up to lovely information about unannounced handsets...

I agree with Michael, while you won't be blown away, I was certainly impressed.

Stay tuned to MB for the announcements the second they happen.

Well this (http://www.mobileburn.com/news.jsp?Id=2360) and the other newly announced S.E. phones here (http://www.mobileburn.com/news.jsp?Id=2357) , here (http://www.mobileburn.com/news.jsp?Id=2358) and here (http://www.mobileburn.com/news.jsp?Id=2359)
aren't exactly in direct competition with the K800i so its still safe to go with that.

Sony Ericsson W850 Walkman announced

The evolution of Sony Ericsson's successful Walkman phone range takes another step forward today with the announcement of the UMTS enabled W850 slider model

Available in Precious Black or Golden White, the phone has an attention grabbing ‘heartbeat illumination’ feature to light-up the control keys in rhythm with your music. Visually stunning and appealing to use, this phone isn’t just about good looks – it also offers blisteringly fast music downloads direct to the handset. The phone is configured for operator over the air (OTA) music download services and accepts many popular music file formats including e-AAC+, which reduces download time and space needed for tracks. Memory isn’t an issue either with a 1GB memory stick PRO Duo supplied which is enough for around 1,000 songs in e-AAC+. This can be expanded to 4GB so that you can store a much larger music collection and have it with you all of the time.

The Walkman® player 2.0 simplifies navigation through music genres, playlists, individual songs or music albums and there’s also a TrackID™ feature powered by Gracenote Mobile MusicID. This is a new service which means you can record a few seconds of a song, either via the microphone or the in built FM radio, and then with one click send that clip to the Gracenote® worldwide music database which will identify the track and relay the information back to the phone.

"The W850 is really empowering our users to listen to what they want, wherever they are," said Jan Wäreby, Corporate Executive Vice President, Head of Sales and Marketing, Sony Ericsson. "Many people now have existing music collections stored in MP3. The W850 allows users to identify and buy music in a new and spontaneous way – hearing tracks they like, identifying them with TrackID™ and downloading them to the phone."

Sony Ericsson has also evolved the Walkman® music player in ways which will appeal whether you’re a new user or already familiar with the interface. The user interface is more intuitive and makes it easy to search and play tracks as well as download them. New graphics capabilities make the experience more visual and provide music metadata and album art. And the download service is integrated, so there’s no need to come out of the music player and into the web browser to visit online music stores.

There is also a high performance 2 Megapixel camera that makes it fun to capture your favourite moments and share them with friends. Fast internet access and web browsing also make it easy to use your W850 to create and maintain blogsites, so you can keep your friends posted from wherever you are.

An impressive range of accessories means you can have even more fun out of your W850. Stereo Bluetooth™ headsets allow you to enjoy music in full stereo quality wire-free, and an advanced car handsfree set makes it safe to enjoy your music phone while driving. Music Desk stand speakers provide a boost to the sound to make the W850 the centre of any party.

The Sony Ericsson W850i is a UMTS 2100 and Tri-band GPRS 900/1800/1900 Walkman phone for Europe, Middle East, Africa.
It is commercially available in Precious Black or Golden White and starts shipping during Q3 2006.

Would have been a cool phone if it had the 3 MP camera module and not the 2 MP.

All the new SE phones are nice but not awe-inspiring. I expected more from SE :(

Would have been cool but wouldnt that put it in direct competition with the K-series?

SE's 2mp are fine anyways, and it makes the handset less expensive.

Would it? I mean i assume that we are still waiting for the Walkman version of the k800 (which i assume exists going by k750 and W800)???

I was hoping for a walkman version of the k790 as it has that lovely 3.2mp cybershot. However, i like the walkman software on these phones as they make listening to music much better than on phones like the k750i. I have the w800 and am happy with it but now i dont see wat is a fit upgrade, the k790 or this w850.

Does anybody know if the k790 has a music player like the walkman ones or is it basic track by track organization? One disadvantage though of K790 is the overly expensive m2 cards, w850 uses memeory stick pro i think so cheaper bigger cards available!!

Is this the first slider from SE? How do you think is the slider built? Im still reeling from a bad 6111-slider experience - do you think that this one is more durable?

Ive seen W850 in DaVinci Code (the movie) white color, Its ugly and screen resolution was poor when they browsed the net with the phone searching for "Alexander Pope".

Go watch the movie and see it for yourself. :)

On the other note, Davinci Code is not worth to watch. (2hrs40min! a waste)

I don't care much for SE styling of late... but I do wish Nokia could steal some of their imaging expertise! They just always seem to bring out solid camera-phones.

no offence people but I think somehow that these are fakes.
It's not that hard to knock up a design in photoshop these days is it?

Why would they have to fake it? The W850 is an officially announced handset.
