G'day All,

First of all, I would like to say Hello to everyone as I am a new member here.

I have got a couple of questions and was hoping that the fellow members will be able to assist me with it.

I am in the process of updating my mobile phone and is currently thinking of getting a Nokia 6280. The dilenma that I am having at the moment is that I don't know whether the bluetooth is compatible with the build in bluetooth for my car (i.e. BMW E46). Would anyone have any experience in pairing the phone with the car? What would be the standard procedure to pair it? What kind of problem would I be expecting to encounter once the phone is paired up with the car?

Also I am thinking to expend the memory card up to 2GB, is the phone capable of such expension in memory?

I would kindly appreciate it if any of the fellow members can assist me with my aforementioned queries.

Many thanks in advance,

Kind Regards,

Le Quiet Uno :)

Hey mate, this place is overrun with Aussies! Sorry I don't know about your 6280 as I don't have one, but I do know that all the complaints about them are pretty much being fixed with the latest firmware update.

The easiet answer is to visit your BMW showroom and ask them.

Hey Lloydo,

LoL! Nothing wrong with a bit of Aussies here and there. If you can't beat them, join them! :D

Glad to hear that they have fixed up the phone with the latest firmware.. but a friend of mine has recently got her phone and is now playing up. (i.e. restart problem) Is there a quick fix to that?

Oh BTW, thanks for you quick reply! :D

NK6600,

LOL, I've tried them. But no luck as they have not yet received their latest information update from the head office in Germany. So they can not confirm whether it is compatible. I guess the only way to find out is to try it. :)

Thanks for you help buddy! :)

How old is your BMW?

NK6600,

It's the last batch of the E46 model. So I would say it is about 18 month old.

Bet bet then is to contact BMW head office in Germany and ask them, main reason being the NK6280 isn't thats old. They might be able to update the software in the car or something. Better still, take a new contract out for the 6280, try it out in the car and then if it doesn't work, simply cancel the contract. I take it you have a "cooling off" period of 7 - 14 days like most places. Maybe there is some kind of club for E46 owners and hopefully someone has the same setup as you. Short of that I have no idea what else you can try.

mmm.... the photo on this article is a samsung phone paired with a BMW. Maybe samsung phones are more compatible then?

http://forums.mobileburn.com/showthread.php?t=13066

if memory serves, any phone with bluetooth 1.2 and above should work... (so that means that a 6280 would work).

oh... and welcome to the MB forums!

cheers!

le_quiet_uno, yes in particular that restart problem seems to have been targeted by recent updates. I'd guess if you get a handset with earlier firmware you could visit the Nokia Care Bear (or whatever they call it) to get an upgrade. I'm getting most of my info from Whirlpool (http://whirlpool.net.au) members.

Also, many people have reported success with 2 GB miniSD cards. I can't think of any cases where they didn't work, in fact.

Cheers!

Thanks for that piece information.

Alright ladies and gentle, I have got the official compatiability result. After testing it out with the phone, we have discovered that 6280 works with BMW. BUT, only for one or two calls then the two problems start occuring:

1) Bluetooth - disconnect and reconnect many times non stop or

2) Able to make calls but bluetooth in the car does not pick up any signals.

Does anyone out there knows how I can address these two issues? Would flashing the system or update with the latest firmware would help to resolve that problem?

I would kindly appreciate it for any input.

Many thanks in advance.

Edit: BTW Would Nokia 3250 work??

Kindest Regards,

Le Quiet Uno

I've got the same problem. My local BMW Dealer in Germany confirms the problem. As a solution they suggest to buy a new Bluetooth Unit from the new 3-Series. I suppose the new 3-Series supports Bluetooth 2.x and the "older E46" only supports Bluetooth 1.x.

In another Forum thread you can find a workaround http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions/board/message?board.id=connectivity&message.id=1493
but I would prefer, to use a seconde mobile with twincar

PS Incase the link is broken here the a quote from the thread

---------------------

have had the problem with the 6280 connecting then continually drops and re-establishes itself.
The fix I came up with is as follows.

Turn bluetooth off on the phone -
turn ignition on and wait for 'connect phone' message - turn phone bluetooth on -
connection message will show then shortly after connection will drop -
quickly scroll down on phone to bluetooth 'paired devices' -
select 'connect'

Hereon the connection stays on, however you have to follow the procedure every time you get in the car.

I have had success with this fix on 3 of my Directors cars - 2 x X3 & 1 X 5 Series
