View Full Version : T630 Review: diappointed...was hoping for more re RF problem
Love this site and all the great review.... but clearly disappointed at the recent review of t630. Michael talked about the problems with the t610 and t616 RF, especially on the 1900 band for users here stateside. That along with the poor screen was sufficient reason for many of us to hold on buying the t610.
Unfortunately, the t630 review does not adequately address whether the RF has been improved significantly....so again we need to wait and see.
If any of you out there do dare to buy the t630, really appreciate your feedback on RF stateside :-)
Well the review was done in Australia, they don't use the 1900 band so unfortunately, your just going to have to wait to find out...
Well, it's not really possible for me to test the 1900 band since my country uses 900/1800, as do most other GSM countries in the world. Generally, Michael is only able to test the 1900 band since he's in America. There isn't really a good solution to this apart from both of us getting the same phone at the same time, which is 95% of the time not feasible.
That said, I found the reception in the T630 to be better than the P800 with my service provider (Optus) in Australia.
Edit: I've updated the review to more accurately reflect what I meant to say. I've heard good and bad reports with the 1900 band, so there is no general consensus on whether reception has improved.
Thanks Sid...didn't know you were from down under.
Maybe Michael will see this and test it stateside. I think readers will find it important as one of the two major factors Michael downgraded the T610 was RF @ 1900...I personally decided against getting the T610 as a result of Michael's review.
If in fact SE did resolve the problem, then we'd all give the T6230 5 mice rating :-)

I have the T630 and can comment some of the RF stateside (Chicago suburb). Although I did not have the T610, I can say that it is equal to the T720...not better, but equal. Now if you can compare the T720 to the T610, you're in business.
Hope this helps.

T720 was not a stellar performer for me, so we shall see.
When I get a chance to briefly test a T630 I will do so. But no ETA on that yet.
SE USA told me not to expect any major RF improvements.
Thanks Michael....if SE says no major improvement, I guess you'll give it the same rating as the t610 as far as RF.
Well, as much as I dislike clamshells, only option is the Z600 (by the way, how is RF stateside with Z600?).

I'm a T-Mobile user in Houston, TX, and have had a T630 since Monday. The signal reception of my T630 doesn't seem significantly better* than that of my T610, but the T630's screen is a great improvement over the T610. And I must admit that I like the look and design--I haven't pocket-dialed anyone all week--of the T630.
I had a Z600 briefly, but, while it had slightly better signal reception than my T610, it felt cheap and was too chunky in comparison with the T610/T630.
* There have a few been times when I could swear it was worse, with my T630 "blanking out" in areas where my T610 was known to have poor signal reception. But, not being geek enough to carry around my T610 and swap out the SIM to run a test, I can't really say for sure.

American users: Is the T630 already available for public purchase in T-Mobile retail outlets? I've only looked on the web site so far which has yet to offer one. Thanks!
