View Full Version : do you ever get tired...

... of buying the latest phones? Have you ever told yourself to settle on just "this one phone for now" and you wont buy another until a year later? (maybe 2 years later?)
Have you ever gotten tired of tired of being on the 'edge of technology' all the time? Knowing full well that this "latest" phone you're using now will be outdated 4 to 5 months later?
cheers!
I don't normally keep a phone more than 2-3 weeks, and I have no problem with that.

haha I've been thinking about that recently...like if I had the money, would I buy phones every month, or would I do that for a while and then finally stick to one phone. I guess I'm scared of not having an attachment to it...while the 3650 may not have been the best or most reliable phone, it's still near and dear to me because I had the phone for so long and it'd been with me through a lot. So I've been thinking how I'd so indifferent and apathetic if I were to buy phones so often...
But yeah these are ravings from an emotional lunatic:p

I bought my 7610 for 650 2 years ago. I'm now debating getting an N80 for about the same price. I could never spend close to $1k for a cell.
People that upgrade every 3-6 months, loosing a hunded or a few hundred bucks drive me nuts! :D

I buy a phone if I like a phone and it serves my needs. If the time is 3 months or 18 months I am not bothered but using this guideline I don't actually get phones that often (average 1 year).

I used to do that, buying phones every 2 to 3 months, but after a while - i got tired of that practice. It's just not practical at all. And even if you have the "latest and greatest" now - in just a few months, it'll be "old news". It just does not make any sense to keep up with technology. (unless it's your job or that you have to).

Me too but presume you get them on evlauation ? I find as long as I but them and sell them before the price drops I can usually make a few pounds..
But in answer no I need "bleeding edge tech" as Bengal would say....cheaper than cars I suppose

Yeah, I was (admittedly) like that once.
But now that I've found a phone that suits me, I think that it's going to take me a longer time this time, to buy a new one.
The search for a better camera, better screen, better speed, better everything - has to end sometime, I suppose.

I said that too myself too.
But because of wanting the edge of technology, I've ended up keeping this 7610 for soo long...since June 04 I think:eek:, always saying, yup this new phone is the next one, no its this one, the vicious waiting cycle:rolleyes:
I'm now looking forward to the N93, the first phone since my main one that on announcement I immediately thought "I MUST HAVE IT!".
I agree with some of you guys though that say that once you find it a phone that suits you no need really to replace it. I probably won't want to replace the n93 for another year. I might get some other phones, but nothing to replace it as my "main one".
There are other guys that just love the buzz of the new phone, buying one week, selling the next. I don't find that economical so, as much as I'd love to do it, my finances as a student doesnt allow :(

I think that you have to be a little "rich" in order to enjoy that kind of spending spree - to buy a new phone every few weeks. Like mr. jose_ram, even if I wanted to do that, my finances wont allow it to happen.
There was one time when I did do it though - went from a 3650, to every new S60 that came out, then stopping at the N70. It was fun and enjoyable too - most of my friends going nuts thinking of the pace I was replacing phones. :D But of all that - I only kept one, a 6630 (because it's the fastest).
Like what was mentioned above - all that yearning to be on the "edge" has got to stop sometime.

And paradoxically, it gets boring:rolleyes: You want to counter the rhythm with actually keeping a phone:)

I fixed the new-phone-bug with accessories. New fascias, making it look different, although obviously the same phone to you, to other peope, its some how a completely diffent phone! (Explains the rainbow of razrs still reaching out to the masses)

ew, nokia mp3 players are nothing, when i mean good mp3 player i mean atleast somethin on par with the w800
and im not sure of the memory but it cant be more than 100mb, atleast 470mb.
and its only 2mp, which isnt too bad, but judging by its counterparts , the n series 2mp cam is pretty crap.
and its a behemoth of a clamshell at 26mm.
i want a w900 in clamshell form i just realised..sigh.
