Can anyone tell me how badly does the 6280 suffer from this dust under the screen issue. How does it get in?. I had an Orange SPV-C500 and this also had the dusty screen issue even though I had it in a case. Is it something that all the 6280 suffer from or only a few handsets. Also, do Nokia know about the problem, if so, then are they doing anything about it. In fact, if they knew there was this dust problem why did they relice the 6280 into the market place..........

Its ok, not too bad but I got quite a bit quite quickly. Luckily, although Nokia say you can't, you can actually take the front cover off to clean it :)

Ok thanks. I was looking forward to getting my 6280, now i'm thinking twice about it..I don't really fancy another dust removel fight. I tried this with my SPV-C500 which also had dust under the screen, and I had the devils on job to remove the dust without adding any more. The bloody static electric attracts dust like a moth to a flame. How & where does the dust get in on the 6280?. I can't belive Nokia did not seal around the screen proberly to stop this happening!. Is it easy to remove front face without damgeing it?. Could I get a replacment phone under warrenty if it does get dusty inside?

lol, you wont get a replacement with any phone for dust, that'd be the day....

But yeah its fairly easy to prevent it. Dust has ALWAYS been a problem for most phones, even back to the 3310, and that was one of the worst.

The best thing to do is not to open it in the first place. Thats for most phones in general.

When you do, and you clean it out, it looks good. But whilst your doing that, you've exposed the insides, and dust will accumulate. Overtime, that dust will just move onto your screen and the problem will be even worse.

"But yeah its fairly easy to prevent it"

How? Even with my old SPV-C500 which by the way, lived in a Krussel case, dust still got in it. My Razr V3 did not suffer from it at all and that did not use a case at all.

ok maybe prevent wasn't the best choice of words. Its a case of opening up the case and just cleaning it once in a while. Short of wrapping it in cling film or something its going to be hard with most phones. The V3 escapes that because it so tightly packed into that case its practically vacuum formed.

Cling film, Hmm, now theres a thought...LOL. Sounds like it's something I may have to learn to live with then. I say 'may' as I have read posts from 6280 owners who have never sufferd from dust issue. I could get lucky.

Problem is the 6280 has interchangeable covers and is a slider so a case is going to be crappy or ruin the complete feel of the device..

Find cleaning mine out with my oakley lens cloth or any lint cloth shines it up a treat - but do find jeans fuzz it up quite quickly...

Cling film ? could all go very nasty....

I'd take a picture of my current 'damage protection' setup if i had another camera, but the camera i use it my 6280 lol :p

I've got a clear plastic clip on shell i got the other day from ebay, very nice. I've also got a phone sock to soften it if i drop it, but it might keep dust out i dont know :)

Talking of cases, have you seen these .http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9718510204&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1
They look quite good and you get a screen protector as well. I had a look at body glove as well but it looked a bit naff when fitted on the phone

See, normally I like silicone cases but theres three major problems with that one.

1. They attract dust like mad to the case itself (all silicone cases seem to be like that).

2. They dont cover the screen with anything

3. That one, because of the sliding mechanism, only seems to cover the back not the front, hence why I opted for this instead:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/100-New-Nokia-6280-Crystal-Hard-Case-Cover-Housing_W0QQitemZ9721406425QQcategoryZ20367QQrdZ1Q QcmdZViewItem

Its a clear plastic hard case, covers most of the phone. I got a screen protector (several actualy) from, would you believe it, Poundland lol (yes, where everythings £1 :p) and it works brilliantly (unlike most other stuff from there).

Ok I see your point RE the silicone case. How much of the screen does the clear plastic type cover. It's hard to tell from looking at the ebay pic. i'll have a look in my local PL and see if they have any screen protectors but are they really needed if the case covers the screen/ by theway, did you find them by chance in PL or did you have to ask for them.

I found them by chance in Poundland, near the door with all the cheapo elecronic stuff and cheap DVD's etc :)

The clear case covers the whole phone apart from:

Camera lens
navigation buttons, softkeys and end/answer call buttons on the front
most of the sides

But, it does cover the screen completely, and also covers the sides on the top half of the slider, most but not all of the sides on the bottom half are exposed, but some of it is still covered up. I'd say about 80% covered overall. Will try and get some pics up soon if I can get my 7600 working (he says, with a W800i brand new sitting on his desk that he can't use cause he's sold it on ebay lol) :)

Lol, thats a typical response from Nokia
"nope, never heard of it before, but thanks" usual crap because they can't be bothered.

The main issue I have is the software, the fact its taken them THIS long to get a software update out, yet many independant companies with far fewer resouces have released software updates overnight for this kind of thing (not phones, but software in general).

So, if the case covers the whole of the screen (and thats good in my book) wouldn't need a screen protecter then, would it?. I'm going to get one asap.

What I'd expect - only a few admitted chinks in Nokias Armour and they are minimal.... your going to get dust under any interchangeable cover phone some more than others...but worringly my W810i appears to have some under the lens glass which would really suck....

According to a CPW salesman I spoke to today and also in the 6280 spec listing given in the back of the CPW catalogue. The 6280 does not have changeable fascias as such. At least, it is not sold has having changeable fascias as part of it's sales appeal, unlike the SE Z520i for example which is. Just because you can take the fascia off and I would think that this would apply most phone, does mean the phone is sold as being able to do this. Look on ebay and you will find houseings for most phones, I can even get on for my Razr V3 but it means unscrewing the thing to do it, Deffo not sold as having changeable fasicas. Covers\fasicas\houseings, call them what you will, are put on at the factory,so it stands to reason that you or some service engineer can remove them at a later date to get to the workings inside, like if you need to replace the screen for instance.......

Your right, Nokia don't sell it as a phone that supports changeable fascias. However, they can be removed without voiding the warranty in any way and without unscrewing the phone, although you do have to be very carefull compared to most ordinary phones when taking it off.

And no, I spose you wouldn't need the screen protecter too. The only reason I've got both is cause I bought the screen protector, then about a month and half later got the case :)

Its cool - still using mine for videos at weekends and find some fluff under it....its a pain but 2 minutes a fortnight keeps it looking spick and span....

you can remove the dirt on your 6280 beautiful screen..
parise off the top front cover using your thumbnail down to the sides until you remove the front pannel.. very easy but be careful.. you might break the cover.. if you want it safely just bring your unit to nokia service center..
