Hello everyone, I have just ordered a Nokia 6280 from o2. I've gone for this phone because o2 haven't got the new Sony yet and I prefer Nokia's anyway! I have been reading into it a bit and apparantly the memory's not all that. BUT, there seems to be a myth that the handset originally has 128mb of internal memory and not the 10mb it comes with and you can gain the extra by entering a code?????
Does anyone know anything about this?????

No it's not true... it wouldn't make economical sense for Nokia to do this nor be realistic...

Just buy a miniSD card, they are so cheap now anyway, 256mb is only about £10.

A 6280 with 128mg internal memory... Oh if only,if only........

DEViANT. Where do you get the 256mg cards for only £10?

It's actually £11.59 with free shipping, but it's close enough and a great price.

www.w2w.com

They're under Mini Secure Digital Cards and the cheapest 256mb one is made by Sandisk (a great brand anyway). To be honest, for £2.70 more you can have 512mb. Personally, when I get my N80, it's going to have no less than a 1Gb card in it!

Even £11:99p is cheap for a 256mg memory card. The CPW want £28:99p for the same size card and get this, w2w.com do a 1g card for £28:99p and free postage. Stuff the CPW, I know where i'm going to shop for my memoruy cards. Thanks for the info mate...

Glad I could help, that is what we're here for. It is appalling how much the high street charge...

But in all seriousness, consider the 512mb card which is only £14.29 (£2.70 more for double the capacity).

Ok so what do you think, like maybe a 1 gb card is to much memory for the 6280 or just the cost?

No, it's not too much nor too expensive. I'm just saying, if you were going to choose a 256mb, get a 512mb instead. But if 1Gb is within your reach, get that, because it is marginally better value than 512mb (by 59p per Gb) and it is a great price.

I am going to get a bigger card seeing as I can't get much on the puny 64mg that comes as standard I think, haven't got the phone yet so can't really coment on that side of it. I don't know which size memory card to buy, but logic suggests going for for the biggerst one I can afford but i'm just not sure how much memory i'm gonig to need\use.

At The Link, i'm fairly certain all our 512MB memory cards are £23.99. I know the MiniSD ones are for definete (and all ours are Sandisk ones too)

That still don't beat £14:29p for a 512mb from w2w.com now does it

£23.99 still definitely isn't good. Last I saw of bad memory prices was £24.99 for a 128mb Memory Stick Duo in CPW. W2w still has to make money, which means at £23.99 they must be making at least 100% profit.

I didn't say it was meant to beat the Internet prices, all I'm saying is I'm fairly confident that its the cheapest on the high street itself. And are all your prices including P&P? If you need a memory card right away, or can't be bothered to wait for it, or you getting someone to get you one for a present, thats prolly the best place to get it.

And like you've said CPW seem to charge that much or more for 256MB cards or the like.

My 512mb card came next day, even if it is the cheapest on the High Street, £10 difference is still too much. I think you'll find CEX (Computer EXchange) is cheaper anyway. I'm not a fan of The Link as myself and a few others had it made extremely difficult for us to claim our cashback on the phone contracts we took out. This resulted in me writing to The Link's Head Office to get an official letter to forward back to their Claims Department to actually get my cheque. With that in mind, I proceed with caution these days and don't believe High Street is any better than buying on the internet.

Quick update to this topic, I just got sent this offer through to me via e-mail:

http://scripts.affiliatefuture.com/AFClick.asp?affiliateID=36667&merchantID=884&programmeID=2718&mediaID=0&tracking=&url=http://www.mymemory.co.uk/memory/Kingston/1GB/Mini/SD/Card/(Mobile/Phone/Memory)

Basically, they offer a 1Gb Kingston MiniSD for just over £20 inc. shipping. which makes them a fair bit cheaper than w2w.com . They also have the 1Gb DV-RS-MMCs in, at only £4 more than I paid for my 512mb. Well, I guess it pays to shop around...

Hey. Thanks for yet another good link mate. I think I may go for the 1g Kingston card instead of the 512mg one from WcW.com. It is listed at £17:99p (does that inc P+P, it does not say). Do I have to sign up to the site before i can order it?

No it doesn't include P&P, that is £3.95, but at just under £22 for 1Gb Kingston-branded, I don't think it can be beat. I've just ordered it for my N80 due in a few days time.
