Along with its slim, tapered profile - the Nokia 6126 phone is also just 48mm (1.9 inches) wide and weighs in at a featherweight 112 grams (3.9 ounces). Besides the soft-touch black finish, the Nokia 6126 phone can also be found in silver with white, beige or red accents. For an added touch of fun and convenience, the Nokia 6126 phone also integrates a push-to-open button into its design. Located at the edge of the hinge, the button, when depressed, allows the phone to automatically glide into the open position.

A full suite of the most popular features has been engineered into the Nokia 6126 phone. To enjoy music on the go, the Nokia 6126 phone includes a digital music player that supports a variety of formats including MP3, AAC, AAC+ and eAAC+. With an optional 1 GB microSD card, approximately 1,000 songs can be stored on the hot-swappable memory card and enjoyed using an optional wired stereo headset, or for the ultimate in convenience, through an optional wireless stereo headset using Bluetooth technology.

Quad-band GSM/EDGE technology allows the Nokia 6126 phone to be used on virtually all GSM systems around the world (subject to operator roaming agreements). The integrated 1.3 megapixel camera includes 8x digital zoom and a full screen portrait mode viewfinder that lets users see exactly what they are capturing. In video mode, the Nokia 6126 can capture video clips and use as video ring tones on both the internal and external displays. Additional features include streaming audio and video support, built-in 3D games, including a 3D version of the classic 'Snake' game, local and remote synchronization of contact, calendar and to-do lists and enhanced voice features including speaker-independent name dialing.

Nokia 6126 is identical to the Nokia 6131 in the Asian Market. The major differences are that there are no FM Radio and InfraRed connectivity in 6126.

cheers!

Its a nice handset, but I really don't like the little 'kick' at the bottom, it doesn't help anything and just seems out of place.

yeh, i guess they tried to copy the RAZR design but then realised that it wont be original if they did an exact copy. so they did this.

The little lip is actually where the antenna is, so it does help a lot.. ;)

The looks of it is a matter of taste, I like the way it looks, in particular when open (looks much more ergonomic than the razr)

Yeah like the stupid lip on the 6270:rolleyes:

UGH so why do they decide to give the Americans no FM radio or IR?

I disagree, it would not help reception at all by having it kick out.

That's why I still like the 6131 better.

But isn't it also thicker?

It's a wedge design, thinner at the bottom. Both are 20mm at the thickest point, though in the 6126 press release, Nokia stated that it is "17mm average from top to bottom."

Carcomptoy, I suspect they left radio and IR out as that was the feedback from service providers: "give us a sleek phone but keep the price low so that we do not have to subsidize as much when we offer it on contract". And then Nokia went "sure, our policy is now to listen to you guys. plus, it gives a little higher margin per phone too - a win win!". :)

Brad, taking out the antenna would not affect the reception? lol.. :) or do you mean designing it so that the upper part would be longer and cover the lip would not affect reception? that's true, but would have made it a bit thicker I guess.

I suppose...thanks Viipottaja--good insight!

It could have quite easily beed designed without the kick.

Brad, oh ok.. but I still don't understand. I guess I am bit slow. :) Where would you put the antenna then? Both razr and 6126 have it at the lower tip of the bottom part. Or do you mean by the "kick" something else?

I think Brad is simply saying that the kick has no function. Sure it is where the antenna may be located but there was no reason for the top and bottom to be different sizes.

Except that its a Nokia flip, and is there for the design reason alone :)

Yep, that's the way I read his comment as well the first time around as you can see from my post #11

It's like the US version of the 6280 (the 6282) with less features than the first one. Why is the US getting nokias that are not as full featured like the ones in asia or europe?

Is the FCC really that strict? That they wont allow full featured nokias? And that's why nokia tones down their phones for the US/Can?

Cause they realize most Americans don't fully utilize their phones...

Plus, they're more concerned with lower prices than more complete phones...

Its because most US operators are terrible. There was the case of a US CDMA operator requiring that Motorola disable bluetooth file transfer on their handsets ... My guess is that most of the changes are due to operator requirements.

Viipottaja

Exactly. I suspect the average selling price of a phone in the US is pretty low and operator subsidies definitely are huge. If leaving out a feature can save them even $1 per phone, they will ask for it if they think it won't jeapordize the sales.

I'm excited about the 6126 coming to the US...talked to my regional provider and they will be releasing it in the second quarter!! Awesome, I'm due for a big time upgrade from the 3220. I tried the v3i, the d820 samsung and the l7 moto but they just don't cut the mustard. Besides, I'm used to Nokia. This is the first THIN clamshell so, KUDOS Nokia, you are keeping a lifelong customer with this. Now get it out Anyone else getting this phone??

PS It has more features than any other US Nokia, so it is a step forward even w/o the radio. Now that I have Sirius, wouldnt ever listen to it anyway. Also, AM would be better for a phone. WHY not one phone has the AM band? If I am listening to #&# quality, I want talk radio.
