from gizmodo:
Mago Luxury Smart Phone
Russian is not one of the languages we speak at Gizmodo and so we can’t confirm whether the Mago Luxury Smartphone you see above has ever gone into production or if it ever will (we’re guessing not), but damn, it sure is pretty, innit?
Not that specs really matter in this case, but here are some to read anyway while you fold your tongue back into your mouth:
* GSM/GPRS, 850/900/1800/1900MHz
* Class 2 Bluetooth
* Wi-Fi 802.11b
* Windows Mobile 2005
* 2.8” low temperature poly-silicon TFT LCD 262,000 colors
* non-scratchable touch screen
* USB 2.0
* SD/MMC card slot
Update: Thanks to readers Leo and Leon, who both wrote in immediately to tell us the Russian page says Mago will be out in mid-2006 and cost a whopping €3000.

Cool, nice big (touch) screen!
but here are some to read anyway while you fold your tongue back into your mouth:
Does luxury mean boring? its just another rectangular phone.
What is this actually made of?

Yup, it is :D I remember reading that but it didnt register when I read this thread :p the whole vertu thing just made me think about other things.
It looks deceptively thick, but apparently only 15mm.
134mm x 55mm x 15mm - rather large for a candybar. Its got a huuge battery though (capacity wise) so on top of the volume Im guessing its gonna be a weighty too.
Michael says this thing is very unlikely to go on sale...but if this article (from gizmodo) is anything to go by, its not like many of us will miss it, given its €3000 price tag. It might as well not go on sale for most of us:D

Didn't Michael also so in the article that the company's dead?Does luxury mean boring? its just another rectangular phone.I guess you could say that..."simple elegance" I think is the motto of the age. hehe would you rather have gawdy?

Yup Michael did indeed say that.
Simple elegance? The BlackDiamond from S.E. had that, with clean cut lines and that wierd but provoking curve.
I think the boring thing is mostly the phone's front. We've seen quite a few rectangular boxy phones, but some of those have managed to get some style in.
The design isn't very appealing, its very long, very boring.

heh provoking curve? lol you mean just plain ugly:p
I actually like it for some reason...although I don't understand how they intended to pass this out as a smartphone when the buttons are identical to a Nokia 6230:rolleyes:

Not necessarily ugly. And if it was ugly thats completely different from being boring. Boring is normally an acceptable design that doesn't warrant a second look.
The blackdiamond had clean crisp lines. Almost everything is uniform. Horizontally the keypad design looks like a(blank)face with big ears.
About the button arrangement, its not a nokia, so the button arrangement can be identical to the 6230 if they wanted. Its windows mobile touch screen.

Still, most Windows Mobile phones have extra buttons...

But its touch screen. Maybe those buttons are just left to be used on the screen
