Why has unlocking a cell phone that is old become such a big business? I bought a used old personal communicator Motorola V101 for cheap. It appears that to unlock it to use it on another network will cost more than the unit is worth? What happened to "pay it forward"?

Helping a person used to be free now it costs...

If anyone wants to get out of the business of charging and get into the business of helping please email me direct. I am trying to unlock this old used phone since ROGERS CANADA has made sure that it's virtually impossible to unlock without BIG DOLLARS involved.

I remember when you could ask for help and you would get it without anything except a THANK-YOU. Helping a person makes most people feel good about just doing something nice for someone without the COST being there. I say let's change the status quo and give this industry a BIG SHAKE UP by just helping each other....

We will all feel better about "paying it forward" without the cost!

I'll tell you why, it's because not every phone can be unlock by a code. Nokia DCT 2/3/4 for example can be unlocked by code via the IMEI number ie Free. Your Motorola would require to be unlocked manually ie the person who would unlock it for you has spent "$" on the equipment to unlock these phones.

Maybe the next time you go to buy a phone check 1. that is is unlocked already or 2. find out how much it would cost to have unlocked. That way you won't have to go looking for a free unlocking solution that doesn't existed.

It's just common sense.

BTW if I can provide an unlocking for a phone for free, I do it.
