Hi Everyone!

This will be my first post as I am just a newb to the forum. I just recently bought a Nokia N70 and have already read through N70 topics in the forum.

I've already heard the complaints about the N70 but to be honest, I don't really mind everything that people don't like about it because I did kind of expect the phone to be not the fastest one in the market.

I was waiting for Sony Ericsson's M600 but it's still going to take a while before it comes out so I decided to get the N70.

Please let me know what you guys love about the N70, features, applications, and uses. I'm still relatively new to the phone and it would be added value for me to know what you guys love about it.

Thanks!

I think the main points about this phone are:

Protected camera (slide)
Aesthetically pleasing design (much better than the 6680)
Integrated camera flash (decent)
Good camera
Newer revision of Symbian OS
Built-in radio (not many others Symbian phones have this)

How about applications and tweaks?

I also forgot to ask? Do you guys know where I could possibly download applications for the N70?

That should keep you occupied for some time;)

For me the single biggest reason was the amount of free RAM! My N70 has 34mb free after a reboot which means the i no longer have to worry about "Memory Low" messages while surfing on Opera. With this much RAM, its actually a multitasking smartphone.

LOL even with my 12MB on the 6620 I don't get the "Memory Low" error messages...HALLELUIAH!:D

The 6620 has about 28mb free ram doesn't it? ;)

Yep, I've noticed that I've been installing so much already on my phone memory that I haven't even used up my mem card and I've got so much apps already.

it has 24 mb of onboard memory and 12 mb of flash mem.. i.e. memory available for pgrms is 24 mb which is tonnes more than any other s60 except the n series

Seems CCT has chosen actually a rather good phone to replace his 3650. I forgot about the 6620's memory.

Lots of ram/ multi tasking really is making smartphones actual smartphones. Its annoying when mine keeps saying "mem low, close apps! Grr!".

They're always like "WHY'D you get this phone?" with this bewildered look! SO ANNOYING!

Its a great phone at a great price. It takes the essentials of the current smartphones without being too overly priced.

back to topic. imo n70 is now the best s60 candybar, a tad pricey though.

hehe it's not the speedy 6630:p What about the 3250...er is that even considered a candybar?

The 6630 is speedy, but it lacks a better camera, a flash, camera cover.

3250, lacks the smooth practical yet aesthetically beautiful design.

N70 is a compact, good looking package that packs a punch.

Its brains and brawn.

I'm convinced...although what happened to all the complaints about the N70's speed--or lack thereof

N70's speed is adequate. Its not 6630 but its a good compromise.

Hi,

Does more memory equate to getting more speed? Or does it all still depend on the speed of the processor? I've used a 6620 before and like I still feel that the 6630 is faster.

It's all down to the processor on these phones. Unlike a PC, there is no virtual memory so when the memory runs out, it runs out and will no load things. On a PC it would just slow down as it accesses the virtual RAM on the hard disk (causing thrashing). More memory means things should run smoother and not stutter so much, also it will complain less about low memory. 6620 uses a 120Mhz CPU, I think; 6630 uses a 220Mhz one.

What is supposed to be Symbian's strength is that memory errors are kept to a minimum, but it seems a lot of apps dont recognize that.
