Also, www.umpc.com
Samsung, and others have announced products as well. It has an interesting typing method where the kb is split up into triangles in the lower corners - good for thump typing, so they say.

The one with the swiveling screen is the one I like - has a built in KB.
Basic specs are as follows:
WiFi b/g
BT 2.0
40GB hdd
512MB Ram
touch screen,
XP talbet, with touchtype (or some other itteration)
Some also will have a GPS as an option.
there are a few other things, Im sure - but those are the basics.
I guess this is what should replace MS devices with mobile media center, perhaps. Id like to try one out, but Im not sure I would buy one.

I think this is a perfect replacement for the ultra-portable laptop, especially if they hit the under $1000 that they want to achieve. I too like the form factor you have put up, it is the best one, the other Samsung ones are not as nice.
Looks exciting, hope we get more news in Cebit!
No mention of battery life in the reviews I have seen so far.

I estimate no more than 3hrs, some of the protos only lasted 15 mins!

mmm.... I wonder how stable is it?
I hate to spend close to a thousand bucks just to see an ultra-mobile blue screen of death!
cheers!

HAHAHA, that would be funny, I think the first batch will run the standard XP Tablet edition, they should be ok - the worry comes when the new 'proper' umpc OS comes out, but then again that will probably be Vista.
Price wise, Samsung have apparently confirmed 1000 Euros.
No mention of battery life in the reviews I have seen so far.
At their press breifing, Intel said that initial models would ship with three-hour battery life, with models that have all-day batteries shipping within a year.

Do you all think these devices will replace PPC?

No, they have a different aim entirely.
and that is?
all-day batteries shipping within a year.
Wow, that's much earlier than I thought, I was thinking that mobile computing will only arrive in 2009 or 2010...
Hopefully, my next next mobile devices (2 to 3 years) can be based on Origami, :)
PS: aims are different, but API and model are similar, that's why I prefer mobile OSes which has similar solution for desktop computing, better investment and future, :D
and that is?

No, the APIs are different entirly. UMPC devices run full versions of Windows XP Tablet Edition, so use the standard Win APIs, contrary to PPC devices.

I have work with both Windows and PPC, they are different but similar, the API and model for messaging system, the windowing system and etc. The development system is similar too, Visual Studio, :)
Even more similar is .NET framework, I can code application that run on both system directly.
