I was actually playing with a friends Mini S the other day and I was quite impressed by it. It seemed quite fast to me and I love the sliding keyboard. I was also impressed by the size and weight, much smaller than I expected it to me. That same friend was also contemplating the Exec, and although it is better he felt that the size was just not practically manageable.
So if you want a manageable sized smartphone, I would definiteily recommend the Mini S!

I used the Orange SPV M5000 (same as the Exec) and it's big, heavy and buggy. My friend had 3 in a month. The motion of it means it's fragile and because of the way the screen switches orientation it's not ideal. I'd go with the Mini S purely because the slide is a simpler design, so more durable. It's also a less awkward shape.

HTC Hermes, similar in size to the HTC Wizard (Mini S). It's got the same sliding keyboard, but it's also 3G. Got 2 cams, main one is 2 megapixel. It's got a jogger control on the side I think which will be cool. I don't know any of the specs of the processor or memory or anything though, I'm curious though!
Biggest fault of Wizard's keyboard is also corrected, numbers are layout like a dial-pad. With a little practise, one hand dialing on the phone should feel just like a slider phone.
The processor seems like a Samsung 300MHz, see http://msmobiles.com/news.php/5011.html.
(PS: notice the d-pad for T-Mobile device has 2 additional keys, looks nicer too, :))

I would say go for the Exec. I got one a week back. Had the k-jam before that, n found the k-jam to be quite underpowered. Whatever ppl say there IS a difference in a 195mhz and a 520mhz processor. The k-jam however is smaller n has outstanding battery life. I got the Exec purely for the sexy looks, the processor n the.... err Ooommpppphh :D

Presume your friend is on Orange too - I have a generic i-mate version and had no issues whatsoever - as we all know operator skins s/ware can hamper a great device simply because they want to personalise it - 2-3 years developing the device + s/ware - operators have it for a few weeks and screw it up trying to personalise the device - most Motorolas on 3 for example..
Device wise it depends on what you are after - a mini laptop with a great processor or a super smart phone that will fit in your pocket ? they are both excellent devices and I can reccomend both (non-operator) models heartily...

Yeah basically just depends on your size preference...
Read Michael's (the site owner) review about the Mini S, or the T-Mobile MDA as it's known in the U.S.

Hi, we are currently conducting a market research study on MDAs and are looking for MDA-users in London. The research would involve a little diary which you would have to write for 4 days about your phone and the way you use it. This takes only a few minutes each day. For your time you will get an incentive of 120 pounds. So if you are interested just write me an e-mail as soon as possible.
Many thanks,
Corinna

I've owned an XDA Exec (HTC Universal) for quiet a while now - as pointed out, anyone who thinks that much processor difference doesn't matter should try underclocking your WM5 device and see how useable things are. Many things are not lets say shall we... The two devices simply cannot be compared on hardware differences - they're leagues apart.
Have to disagree with the software bugs & build quality comments: mine is very stable, no problems and it feels just as solid in my feel for it as it did when I got it. I stopped using any kind of protective casing a long time ago - no problems, the clam-shell is rock solid with me and protects the device really well. The XDA Exec keyboard is much nicer to use I think, more comfortable and the 2 possible configurations are very handy.
I have 2 completely new HTC Universal ($1000 AU, unlock code provided, badged as T-mobiles, boxed "as new" barring the lack of warranty ;) if your interested, they're going onto ebay if nothing else happens) sitting right next to me ATM as it happens.
This is a big device - it fits into most of my pockets OK though and you can always wear it using a clip, and it isn't light as far as phones go - 285 grams, over a 1/4 kilo, LOL. Given the choice between the two I wouldn't even consider the Mini... you'll be disappointed if you use big brother (XDA Exec) afterwards I'd say.
XDA Exec doesn't come close to the laptop experience but it's a HELL of a lot closer than the Mini... as far as functionality and ease of use goes I'm happy with having a "laptop" I can carry around in my jeans pocket.
