Microsoft have given me six more invites into the Windows Live Messenger (the new name for MSN Messenger) beta program to give away, so anyone that wants one, leave a note here and PM me your email address.

the biggest problem is only the people who have registered with the beta can sign in..

Bushi86 and carcomptoy - I have sent your invites - I have four left.

@zeem35 - Thats why you get an invite from someone that is already a member. Widows Live Messenger talks to everyone on the old MSN Messenger as well, not just people on the beta.

I've been using the beta for a while, I like most of it except the way they've changed the 'send an instant message dialogue...' It's annoying when 40+ people are online to have to scroll down through it, and when you hover over a username that it doesn't show their e-mail address, as some people change their screen name so much I have to see who they are by email address!

Whats the difference with this live messenger thing anyways?

It works the same as normal msn messenger, few extra things though. You can share folders with contacts. Voice dailing is called 'Call' instead, the layout of the main messenger window is different, more on a contact if you move mouse over them.........but to be honest I'm not sure what there is that is new, I haven't really looked into it much.

Brad - if you don't like it can you turn back to the norm ?....

Also (if being a plank just say) surely the new features would be relevant to other beta users thus limiting 99% of my contacts...

Up for it just don't want to waste your time....

Yes, you can uninstall the beta version and reinstall the old one. Yes, most of the new features only work when talking to other beta users, but Live Messenger still retains all the features of the old, and you get them in a prettier interface - plus you get to tell your friends how special you are ;)

Excelent, most of the people I have invited so far are being given invites to give out as well. It seems as though 5 is the most common level, so get posting if you want to share them around.

How? :o
When you accept the invitation and sign up for the beta, you are given an installation program that installs the beta on your PC - you then sign into it with the same Passport username and password you sign in with on the old version of messenger, and it brings up the same contact list etc.

They gave you invites already CCT? They normally wait for a couple of weeks, you got lucky.

In any event, I still have three if anyone wants them.

@Moby - PM me your email address.Cheers Brad, got it.

One problem I have is that the PC it is installed on is shared by others aswell. Unfortunately they can not use Messenger anymore as only I have access. Bad idea microsoft, looks like I'll have to uninstall it straight away :(

You can run MSN Messenger and Live Messenger on the same PC, or you can install Live Messenger for all users and let them use it as well (you don't need an invite to sign in).

It was installed for all to use, but appears to need an invite for each user.

Just to clear everything up, you DO NOT need an invite to sign in to Live Messenger, just to download the install program. But don't try to just distribute the installer, as that will get you barred from all future betas.
