... hot on the heels of the 700w, which is getting lackluster reviews, the rumored follow-up model (the 700p) is now closer to becoming a reality.
from slashphone:
"Merlyn from treocentral forum has posted a Treo 700p photo and saying that the OS will be Garnet v5.4.9, support EVDO. There are also pre-installed programe includes pTunes, SprintTV, Documents to Go 8 and Blazer 4.5. A 62.8MB of free space is available, much better than the Treo 650. The screen is 320x320, the camera has a max resolution of 1280x1024. Treo 700p might not be the final chosen name as it wasn't printed on the Merlyn's new Treo. We will keep track of more proves on this new palm 700p."

In December, palm mentioned that there will be 4 new devices in 2006. Treonauts has "predicted" the models and availability. First of all, we knew Treo 700w has been released and it is the first from the 4 new devices. Treo 700p will be offered first by Sprint for the first 6 months in CDMA format. GSM format will be released after that.
Treo "Hollywood" which might be called Treo 800p will be announced in Q2 2006. Also Treo "Lowrider" is an entry level smartphone will be announced in Q2 2006 as well.

YAY LOL...not that I'm in the market for a Treo, just that Verizon can stop gloating that they have the monopoly on the latest Treo:cool:

They aren't necessarily gloating, anymore than Cingular gloated when they had an exclusive on the RAZR, or T-Mobile with the PEBL. VZW simply has an exclusive (six months I think) on the Windows version, and they are advertising that; that's not gloating, that's a fact. Anyway, what this proves is that sometimes the CDMA market can receive a coveted product/device well before the GSM market. No matter, I don't understand Palm's decision. If you release a product exclusive to one carrier, you limit its sales. Sure, VZW has over 50 million customers, but most of those customers do not want or care for the Treo; the same goes for Sprint. Besides, with these carriers, you have to get the PDA package with the device, which is an additional $30-$50.

If you release a product exclusive to one carrier, you limit its sales.I guess that part's due to the carrier...obviously, having the exclusivity will help bring more customers to the carrier if they really want the phone.

If, and only if, it's desirable. A Treo is desirable to a select group, especially since companies like Cingular and VZW force you to get their $45 PDA data when you purchase a Treo.
