Top firms to test Globe 3G system

GLOBE TELECOM INC. HAS INVITED prominent corporations to "test drive" its new 3G or third-generation network.
Among these are Ayala Land, General Milling Corp., Sun Life of Canada, PruLife UK, 3M Philippines and the Aboitiz Group of Companies, said Globe in a statement.
The joint venture between Ayala Corp. and Singapore Telecom is set to launch its 3G services by the end of the March.
Fierce rival Smart Communications Inc. is also prepared to soon offer new-generation services, such as video calls, high-speed data downloading and video streaming.
Initially, 3G will only be available in Metro Manila and limited to subscribers with 3G-capable handsets and 3G SIMs.
