Opera Mini™ is a fast and easy alternative to Opera's mobile browser, allowing users to access the Web on mobile phones that would normally be incapable of running a Web browser. This includes the vast majority of today's WAP-enabled phones.
Instead of requiring the phone to process Web pages, it uses a remote server to pre-process the page before sending it to the phone. This makes Opera Mini™ perfect for phones with very low resources, or low bandwidth connections.
Opera Mini™ offers the same speed and usability as the renowned Opera mobile browser, and uses Opera's Small Screen Rendering™ technology to provide access to the Web. It has all the features expected of a browser, and more, such as bookmarks, browsing history, and ability to split large pages into smaller sections for faster browsing.

Just downloaded this to my phone awhile ago (Im using 1.1.2421)... yup, it's fast, faster than the symbian version of Opera I think.
It doesn't occupy a lot of memory too - only around 86kb, which I think is smaller than the sis version(?). When downloading - it automatically detects what phone you're using, and installs the best version your phone is suited for. (a friend of mine used his 6230, and got another version of mini). It also works well with EDGE, and is capable of working in 3G.
cheers!
I completely agree, I've been playing with it for a couple of months, since just before it got released with TV2, and it is pretty cool. The short cut keys (Shock! Page down!) are really handy.

it is indeed faster than the symbian version of opera. But i like to look at web pages as you see them on the comp, which you cant do with opera mini.

It is free.
I use Opera as my web browser on my computer and I was so happy when I heard about Opera Mini.

I just downloaded it for my N-Gage and I've come to the conclusion that I wouldn't use it on a normal basis...I don't much like Java apps...more complicated than necessary. Well, not complicated...but more involved, you know what I mean?
Anyways...still a good app for those emergencies. I can't wait for the S60 3rd edition browser with MiniMap!:)
I probably wouldn't use it to replace a browser on a S60 device, but for non-smartphones this is a great little browser.

agh I can't find a concise enough article...
so here: http://www.s60.com/browser
minimap? whats that?
For devices with higher resolution screens surfing full HTML pages (rather than WML WAP pages), it creates an overall zoomed out picture of the whole page, rather than just the small area that normal phone browsers show. This allows you to navigate to your area of intesest on the page without excessive scrolling.

yeah, its only the newer models. the edge chip moto decided to use was crap, but it was too late to go back and replace it.

So you're saying it's a hardware problem? Outside of Opera Mini I do fine on just regular WAP-surfing...

Opera Mini launched worldwide
Jan 24 2006 - 09:00 AM
Opera Software today released its mass market mobile browser, Opera Mini. Until now the software was only available in Norway and other select European countries. Unlike Opera Mobile, Opera Mini is designed to be used on the vast majority of phones that ship in the US--any modern phone with Java. In the US that means if you have a handset from any national carrier besides Verizon Wireless, your phone is probably compatible (Verizon Wireless uses BREW instead of Java, no word yet if a BREW version of Opera Mobile is coming).

Opera Mini uses a proxy server to reduce page size and complexity for a total savings of up to 80%. This not only helps out phones with slow data connections, it also lowers the application's memory requirements so it can work on more handsets. Thanks to an undisclosed monetary agreement with Google, Opera Mini's homepage defaults to the search leader.
The application is available for free from the company's website and can also be delivered via a premium SMS for $2.99. To download from your phone, point its WAP browser to http://mini.opera.com.
cheers!
