Finally get myself a Dopod 838, local model based on HTC Wizard 100.

It suck initially due to the PDA heavy UI, it even worst than the extremely inefficent S60 (IMO)! After a week of twisting, by reassigning buttons and enhancing with application, it finally turns into a usable phone, :)

The reception is solid, yet to see it drop below 2 bars till now, even in areas where my previous 6670 has almost no signal or 1 bar.

The voice quality is superb, much better than any phones I've owned or tried. Sound from HS850 bluetooth headset also sound much better than used with the 6670.

However, the music playback suck through the stereo speakers or the earphone. I lost my 2.5mm to 3.5mm adaptor, will be getting a new one and try out with my Sony earphone later, hopefully it will make the playback bearable.

The keyboard is nicely built, but the lack of lock mode indicators (eg. caps lock) is every frustrating... and it seems to have a undocumented number lock mode, which I still can't find the exact combination to activate it or deactivate it, I always get stuck in this mode... very annoying and stupid implementation!

Battery life seems to be great, I have been testing, twisting and using it for 3 to 4 hours daily, and have only charge twice in the 1st week of using.

Brought a SanDisk 1GB miniSD, works fine on it. Get all useful freeware from my old PPC 2003 based iPad to work on it too, :D

Lastly, many people are doubtful on the phone speed due to the slow processor. IMHO, it is not slow for most usage... application launching is a bit slow, but still acceptable, :)

Ok, brought a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adaptor, bass lover will like the output, serious music lover will find it lack of clarity a big letdown...

Also, I have found the undocumented key combination to enable number/symbol lock mode, press the <dot> key the lower left coner twice follows by the <Caps Lock> key. Finally, solve the annoying the keyboard issue, :)

The camera? It is a piece of junk, I don't feel like talking about it... it's a camera-less phone to me, :D

I know that MB members are not fond of WM devices, but for anyone who want a nice PDA phone or communicator, I highly recommend it.

What to do? People here isn't fond of WM devices, :(

I like this forum, so I still want to share some thought on the device here, but not to the extend of a review, :)

PS: what surprise me is the number of views, it quite high considering the fact that it is about WM and there isn't any discussion, :D

I'm sure everyone wouldn't mind a review of it...true there isn't as much hype about Windows Mobile here on MB, but no matter, we are first and foremost a mobilephone forum, second S60:p j/k j/k

Those are actually very good... maybe a little saturated on the colors, but it's clear, sharp, and in focus.

cheers!

I guess the new generation of camera phones has rise my expectation too much, :)

I'll see if I can do a small review, from a different prespective as compare to those on other sites and the one from the master, ie. Michael, the king of MobileBurn, :D

the 838 cost in Singapore is around S$1370 - 1388, depending on which shop
the 838 got 2 version, European version. in china, they over write the rom to Chinese simplify version. cost rmb 4400 to 4600, my friend form Guangzhou brough for me one set at rmb 4500 = S$900. the agent price is around rmb 6800 ( S$1400 )

so it is a 500 difference, if you need only English version, must buy form Hong Kong, cost only HK5000, (S$1000)

just for information, in KL , Malaysia, the branded note book PC are usually 10% cheaper then Singapore.

the cheap hand phone form china now around S$50 - 60 each, no need to sign up for line. China brand, can work normally.
