An excellent, albeit a little uncritical, preview of the N80 on AllaboutSymbian.com. Sorry if reposting. I think the article nicely captures the significance of the device. In particular, I liked the way it describes the possibilities of the phone as a multimedia controller around the house etc.

Right...Ive finished reading it...

Its a wonderful preview. Seems very much like a Biography of smartphone...coming of age...reminiscing the 7650...quite ominous

In November 2002, The Economist featured the Nokia 7650 on its cover, saying it heralded 'Computing's new shape'. Three years on, the N80 is the natural successor to the 7650, both in terms of significance and iconic design. The 7650 signaled the coming of the smartphone, I think the N80 heralds fulfillment of the early promise; to borrow a phrase, the 7650 was the beginning, the N80 is the end of the beginning.

Sad to hear there's no autofocus...but I'll have to see pics to see how much this really matters

I guess critical analysis of N80 ll probably come about the time the phone ll be getting released, but for me i say the battery life is something to watch out for.

True. Then again, not a big prob to just plug it to the charger at night - even if its every night. I.e. defenitely a deal breaker if it can handle at least one day's use without probs. Dang, I think I just have to get this phone.

Btw, interesting that the article talks about dual band CDMA, whereas other people say there will be two versions.. Gosh I wish its dual band CDMA as I travel a lot accross the Atlantic.

Its NOT dual-band wcdma. On Nokia's website, it says WCDMA 1900 *OR* 2100 and not 1900 *AND* 2100.

hmmm, hopefully T-Mobile's 3G future will be more clear at that point. Dont want to get the 1900 UMTS version if T-Mobile is gonna have it on 2100, or vice versa

Ah, I feel lucky that I dont really have to worry about Nokias releases being incompatible here.

Roll on March 2006!

This phone is pretty much the ultimate :p although it will also make the ultimate hole in your wallet ;)

As much as I'd like one, I think it is far more reasonable to be content with a 6280 (if I can ever get my hands on one!!). Although, the time it is taking is leading me to take interest in similar-spec'd phones such as the W900 and V3x...

I guess thinking of N80 too much has got me all thought up, i guess in asmuch as the phone got some kick-a** functions, the deal breaker will be that it wont be all utilize for long periods while the phone is not near a charging unit.
With a phone like this in my head i dare not to think of a W900 not to talk of V3x, i am definetely not considering except due to budget constraints which i doubt considering the price range of N80, W900, V3x.

Does anyone know if the N80 can take batteries of larger capacity?

For the first couple weeks I'll have to carry the charger around with me (this is normally the honeymoon period where the phone never leaves my hand)

Budget shouldnt be so much of a problem - I'll just get it on contract and pay monthly.

why not just carry around a spare battery, as they are quite small anyway, you could prob fit a spare battery in the credit card holder spaces in your wallet lol!, just make sure they are both charged up. thats what im going to do anyway! the perfect solution! bet the phone is still gunna be at least £50 and then line rental on a contract phone! they have begun to do this now days ahvent they, if your line rental is not more than £50 a month then the phone usually costs a certain a mount for the opening few months! but then when you think about it..... how much pleasure is actually having the N80 in your hand guna be! (LOADS N LOADS) n then think hey, £50 or so and a £25 p/m contract isn't too bad for something you are going to use all the features of everyday for a year! i certainly wont mind paying this for what you are going to get!
definately worth it, hmm a 3MP camera (£60), mp3 player with potentially unlimited capacity (£80) reasonable vid recorder of goodish quality (f'nos) well worth it

I reckon with a £25 p/m contract the phone will start at £100-150 'cause it's top of the line.

I'm gonna get a £35 contract...trying to get as much off the price off the handset and onto calls and messages instead.

Thats gonna make the phone about 80-100GBP (based on N70 12 month contract)
