A new type of text message called StealthtText launched by Staellium UK Ltd self-destructs in 40 seconds, according to The Daily Record.

In their own words:

This tape will self-destruct in five seconds” became a household phrase in the 60s and 70s thanks to the creators of Mission Impossible, and now 30 years later the ability to send your own self destruct messages has become a reality thanks to a new innovation – called StealthText launched by Staellium UK Ltd.

Whether you’re a celebrity who’s up to no good or a business executive dealing in sensitive information, the last thing you want is for urgent text messages you’ve sent to fall into the wrong hands. StealthText allows you to send a text message safely in the knowledge that it will delete itself from the recipient’s mobile phone as soon as the person has read it – ultimately, allowing the sender control of their own information.

Until now, mobile phone users have had to rely on recipients to delete sensitive text messages on their behalf; although a number of high profile cases (Rebecca Loos), have shown that this cannot always be relied on.

However, by simple keying in a code, StealthText users can rest assured that the message goes up in smoke, just like the famous tapes scenes in the Mission Impossible series.

PRINT SCREEN/SCREEN CAPTURE! :D (for smartphone users only!) lol!

Stealth text may cause more harm than good.
One good thing about text is that its quite hard to conceal your identity. There is almost always a number to bar.

I forsee a whole new way of pranking.

A good way of covering up important confidential messages is to either have apps like GENA (password filter protected) or have the ability to lock a message with a code when sending.

I went on the thing quickly, and it's not as it seems, from what I gathered it basically gives a link to a webpage, because you have to text them first, and if they try visit that page again it's gone. Kindy sucky to me and I bet they overcharge!

I think this's bad, I mean, how would a girl know if her guy is two-timing her?

Of course, there are other ways, but texting is the most obvious. :)

Wouldn't the guy delete the texts anyway once he read them? :p ;)

This produict has a "ropey" feel from reading it to the appearence of the site, linking to unbranded white pages which remind me of the Jamster kind of crappy t+c's...

I agree however this could indeed be the new way of two-timing, pranking, hell you name it...

Need more solid info on it before I'll ever subscribe though !

But with pranking why wouldn't you just use a free text serivice? lol.

Disappearing text messages unveiled
By Julie Clothier for CNN

.....

One of the most high-profile victims of embarrassing texts was the England football captain David Beckham, who sent explicit messages to his personal assistant Rebecca Loos. They were published in the tabloid press in April 2004.

Barnum said some critics had concerns about preventing the messages being used as a method of bullying teenagers and children, but she said the service could be accessed only by people older than 18.

She said if anyone received malicious StealthTexts, they could block the sender or stop any StealthTexts from any sender being sent to their phone.

All messages would be stored and saved for at least six months on a secure server.

The company also plans to unveil self-destructing e-mails, digital photos and voice mail messages, when it presents its ideas at the 3GSM World Congress to be held in Barcelona, Spain, in February.

cheers!

I honestly think this is crap...one of marwans favourite words...RETARTED.

It honestly has nooo useful/practical value.
There are too many holes to poke through of why its just plain dumb.

Its trying to make life easier with its overly cumbersome idea....just overkill. OTT.

What would be the point in having sleath text where your texts are stored on some ruddy database???

It says becks and becky lu should have used this, but if they did they would have been found out anyway, since their texts woulda been stored!!

Self destructing emails...I thought I experienced that..but outlook set my settings to "hide read email"...

Its all too stupid that you have to sign up before being able to have this function. Cos then you know anyone who signs up wants something hidden, or is gonna do something malicious.

and surely it would only work if the users at both ends had the software?

umm... maybe this is their way to ensure that "those below 18" will not use this service?

but I agree... one has to place so much trust on this company. I mean, having to store all messages on a server - no matter how secure they say it is, just defeats the purpose of having dissappering texts.

cheers!

I doubt its for adult verification.

Their sign up probably just means paying a certain amount...which somehow proves your 18+

Like Ive seen on a website called faceparty ages ago.

You can only view certain peoples profiles if you're 18+ and to prove that you "sign up" but then there are people 16 and under signing up for it.

This is the stupidest thing Ive ever seen, more stupid than a waterproof teabag.

thats still better than this "stealth texT".

The idea is good but their method of going about it is stupid to the point of contradicting the product.

Chocolate fireguards can be eaten...it has 1 more use than this.
