My dad asked me to find out about phones which can support dual sim, he has a work line and a home line. I was wondering which (if any) handsets can support dual sim, AT THE SAME TIME, I have seen some where you can switch between two but are there any that can sport two lines at once. (I hope not sounding like a total idiot and this is common knowledge, but I don't know much in this area). If there are handsets (or lots) that will do it I'll ask him about budget/other features, but I know his main uses for his phone are just calling and texting.

um, is this like a SIM with 2 numbers on it?
I've heard of this too... but I dont think that there's a required phone for it. It's more network-dependent then phone-dependent. Afaik, it's a standard 128K sim, written with special code, for it to accomodate calls from 2 numbers. But when texting or calling from the phone, connecting to gprs, or using mms, however, only one number is used. Try to inquire with the networks there... I think they will do the settings for you.
Umm... come to think of it, I think that phones having 5MB or more of internal memory are the ones that can do this. (I remember a demo with a 6230 before). Anyway, most phones nowadays have more than 5mb... so it's not really a big deal, right?
cheers!

No, it's two seperate sims, and I want them in one phone, and be able to use both lines at the same time......if its possible.

I see...
um, well there's this HyperCard... but I think it's not what you're lookin for coz it uses its lines one at a time, not at the same time.

Ya as difenbaker said.. they are dual sim adapters...
the phone works on one sim when phone is switched on first time..
when you restart phone..it works with 2nd sim..
it repeats the same way..

yea i think the closest thing you can hopefor here is the first option Difenbaker gave you; network dependant smasrt sim's or whatever there real name is basically, one sim with two numbers, i dont think you can have two seperate sims running simultaneously in one phone at any one time i am afraid, or many more people would want to do this. for work and social contacts.
looking at it though surely one sim with two numbers is the best way as it works exactly the same as two sims only saving you the space. looking into it, it might suprise you.

His work line is provided by his workplace and different network to his personal line, not possible. And needs to have both lines at same time, he'll just have to stick with two handsets!

ya thats the easiest option...two handsets...
if he does not want others to know about his 2nd handset ask him to get a small man :D like the panasonic a101
