to unlock the Nokia N70 or not?!?!?

hi, ive recently bought my boyfriend a nokia n70 for xmas. the only problem is he lives in Ireland and doesnt have a Vodafone sim card. i am desperate to get the phone unlocked. ive heard many different stories - vodafone will unlock the phone for £20 - it cant be done - there are some programs u can buy to unlock it. i am willing to try anything to get it unlocked! i am desperate, it will be a wasted xmas present otherwise! any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If Vodafone (I'm assuming you bought it from them) say they won't unlock it, then your out of luck.

the only way to get the phone unlocked is to go back to the operator the phone is locked to (presumably vodafone) and ask them to please unlock it.

I think if you explain your situation, they might do it.

Yeah, with the newer generation Nokias, you can't...the ones that've been unlockable are DCT3 and DCT4; these new ones are BB5. So far, only Nokia (and consequently the carriers) and this one Eastern European know how to do unlock these new generation handsets...

For example, 3 here in Australia can't unlock their 6680s if they wanted to.

I'm from Ireland too, what you have to do is spent a total of €127 on the account and Vodafone will give you the unlock code.

3 in the UK were asking me for £215 to unlock the N70 from their network... You have to go through the operator unfortunately
