Can this be done

just got a S710a for free, but it dosnt seem to work here.
usually cellphones from uk or australia can be unlocked here to be used locally.
can the same be done to a S710a?

The S710a is not from the UK or Australia, it is the US model. It uses the 850/1800/1900Mhz bands instead of 900/1800/1900Mhz in the S710i (the European version of the phone). If the carriers use 900Mhz where you are, then you are out of luck.

If it is just a carrier lock, then you should be able to get it unlocked.
