Hi everyone this is my first post, been reading the forum for a few months though. Anyways i recently bought my girlfriend a nokia 6230i phone from livetelecom.com they sent me a t-mobile badged phone. I bought a 512mb kingston MMC plus memory card as well for it off ebuyer.com. I have transferred mp3's to the memory card and the card works fine. The problem is that once i gave the phone to my gf she experienced one major problem. The phone switches off everytime someone calls her the mp3 doesn't work(off memory card) it vibrates but as soon as she answers the phone it dies. i was tinkering with the phone before i gave it to her and recieved calls and it worked fine. I think it could be a battery problem rather then a software problem. Cause like a fool i didn't charge it properly i on'ed it and charged it for the first time while transfering mp3's. plus the phone worked fine for me as long as the power cable was connected so im assuming its the battery. Anybody else had this problem or do you think its down to a software or battery glitch?

No, it's because some memory cards draw too much current from the phone so it shuts itself down when calls come in. Even if the memory card works fine under normal conditions. I had the same issue with a PQI 256Mb card. In order to use MP3 ringtones, I just copy the file I want to the internal memory and use it that way, which shouldn't be a problem for you, seeing as the 6230i has 32mb built-in. It's annoying but that's the way it is. It's not a phone hardware fault. Just the current draw of playing an MP3 file from an MMC, sending/receiving a signal and having pretty much all of the phone's main hardware in use at the same time is too much for it.

I wont comment on the phone re-start as it could be the battery or even the memory card as i have not experienced any such problem.

But as you also mentioed that the mp3 does not work from the memory card some thing could be done...

If you want to use your mp3 from the memory card make sure all the mp3 files have been copied on the root of the memory card and not in any folder as a 6230 will not read mp3 files from a folder. Try it and do let me know if it helped.

cheers... :)

Thanks for the replys guys, yes i think it was a battery problem. Cause my girlfriend did change the battery and it worked without a problem. I def think that the kingston 512mb card i have is drawing too much power and causing the phone to restart.Plus i ruined the new battery by not charging it properly think i'll take it to the nokia dealer and see if they can hard charge it again. hzs_id the mp3's do work and i copy it to folder called mp3 in the card directory (which the phone formatted) playing of mp3's works fine its just when the phone rings and the ringtone was an mp3 based on the memory card, that it didn't work. But thanks you guys hopefully there shouldn't be a problem. Hmm i wonder if i can get a more powerful battery for the phone?
