Can u guys help me out i need a new phone i got a really old t7120 motorolla i'm thinking of updating. I read both reviews for the phone and i like them both, the sound on the 550i i think is alot better but has a camera that isn't to great and the k750i has pretty good sound and a really nice camera. Those are the main things i can find about the phones, can u suggest any other aspects of both phones and which do u think is better?
Thnxs guys =)

well the 550 doesnt have autofocus.. or macro mode but i dunno many people who use that.. and it has a single led flash so its not as strong as the double led flash on the 750 and flash is important.. it has 256mb inbuilt but u cant upgrade and u can use only 244mb. the 750 has upgradable memory but its sorta expensive.. if u want good sound and arent planning to upgrade the memory get the 550.. otherewise its gotta be the 750..

If you use the same headphones on both phones, the sound should be the same...
However, giving that you like the design, you should go for the w800i instead, it's like the two phones combined..
I have the K750i myself, and while it's a good phone, the w800is musicplayer rocks. It works just like an iPod!
I hate the dirtywhite color, (plus I got the K750i before the w800 had even got out), otherwhise I would've gone for the w800i.
The price shouldn't be much more than the K750i.

what media player does the k750 use? The walkman interface on w550i works pretty well (just like an ipod, as described above), and I'm liking mine so far. I have a k750 on the way to compare the two.

The K750i media player is very basic. You can create and edit playlists, there's an grafical equalizer and.. well thats pretty much it.
For instance, when you press the back-button on the w550/w800 the music keeps playing while you can browse through artists and albums etc.
And if you hold the backbutton, the player will minimize.
On the k750i, if you press the back button the music stops. and if you hold the back button the mediaplayer application closes. And there is no possibility to browse through artists and albums and such.
On the k750i, if you press the back button the music stops. and if you hold the back button the mediaplayer application closes. On the K750, when the media player is running, press 'More', then 'Minimize' and the media player will put an icon up the top of the screen and keep playing in the background.

Yeah I know, it might've been unclear, but I was refering to the differences between the two music apps.. Minimize can be done with both w800/w550 and k750.

I dont know why my k750 hasnt come yet. I got a usps email saying it was being express mailed here, and that was almost two weeks ago.
My w550 is working out pretty well so far. Battery has somewhat surprised me as well, although I am looking for ways to make it last even longer. UI is pretty cool, and the camera has worked good enough so far, methinks.
one beef: I bought a belt clip carrying case from the cingular store, and weird thing is if i insert it bottom in (not antenna side), it unlocks the keylock and makes the sound as if it was being spinned open. I have been unable to reproduce the same effect, I tried hitting all the buttons on the front, but that's not it. *shrugs* I've just been putting it in the other way, which actually works better.
I do want my k750.

go for thw w800i, you have the quality of the k750i camera, yet have the funky design and quality music player of the walkman range. plus you get alot more memory than the k750 or the w550, with a 512mb card bundled with the phone.
i have had mine for 2 months now and it is a great phone :)

finally received my k750, and my immediate conclusion is go for the k.
+ camera and/or the screen seem to be brighter and much better pictures it seems like (for 1.3 to 2.0 at least *dunno*)
+ external mem card (64mb is too small, but heck, im gonna buy a psp one day, so might as well get prepared)
+ the screen (not camera mode) just looks more brighter and vibrant
+ (for me) no moving swivel parts. my w550 felt like it was starting to get just a little bit loose after a week. maybe it was just me *shrugs*
+ smaller size (higher innovation = smaller faster I would assume, but I know what assuming does?)
+ I think the form factor is much cooler, along with the case colors. black, silver and red rule my day.
+ same price as w550i (eBay) but 100 less than the w800 (eBay again)
- keypad is shrunk somewhat, but the w550 keys felt really strange to me to begin with as well, but I got used to them
- loss of keylock slider (not that much of a biggie, IMO)
- joystick feels weird, but same deal with keys, I'm sure i'll get used to it (this should be with the first -) (I'm used to it now)
now to address the quote i put in: no minus there on the k750 media player, becuase my k is loaded with and thinks itself to be a w800. in the screen with the phone info (model, name, battery, available space, phone number), it says its a w800i, and so also has the walkman interface that I'm used to (which is pretty much like an ipod, afaik, i dont have an ipod)
my overwhelming immediate suggestion is the k, and if you want the walkman stuff, fit it with w800 firmware.
we'll see how my fast paced conclusion pans out. I'll tell ya what I think again in a couple days or weeks.

Well if you've got the k750i with the w800i firmware, you've got it all :) The better looking (imho) design of the k750i and the outstanding mediaplayer of the w800i.
We can't get that here in sweden :(

W550i is under specced and static memory - go for the K750 or ideally the W800....hell or wait for the successors due early next year just avoid the stumpy 550 like the plague !

yeah.. the w900 has been released(so i heard somewhere)... and the i300 is out.. my friend had a test edition.. he said it had small bugs which will be rectified in the production model.. only -ve point is 1.3MP cam.. but pic quality is good.. and 3gb + mini sd support.. and the media player is awesome esp with the playlist support!!

the fast paced conclusion is fine, but I've come across my first beef, and it's a pretty big one for sure.
The reception!
at home, i got full bars (5) almost all the time on the w550, I'm getting 2-3 with the k750. At work, i got 2 with the w550, and get either none or no reception at all with the k750.
does the external antenna really account for this much difference? the w550i is 900 1800 1900 right? (the same as the k750 correct?)
(I know it's not cellular network, I switched off cingular and tmobile sim cards I have, and the w550 got better reception regardless)
I know the mobile burn review says the k750 has kickass call sound quality, and cnet agreed. what is up?
maybe I really will be doing the disassembly thing
EDIT: I did some looking into and discovered I am a firmware update away from better reception (how much better I dont know). My k750 is from portugal though (shipped from california, go figure), and so isnt supported by sony ericsson update software. When I find out how to work it, I'll let everyone know
