I did quite a bit of research today, and here is the best deal I could find: http://dealnews.com/deals/Unlocked-Sony-Ericsson-W800-Walkman-Phone-for-415-shipped/99794.html
I'm looking for the best deal on a new, unlocked w800i. I'm wondering if you guys know of any better deals, or is this as good as it gets?
Also, where is the best place to get a data cable for the w800 so I can perform firmware upgrades and do all the other fun jazz?
Thanks
The data cable comes in the box with the W800, you don't need a special one to do firmware upgrades and such.
As for the best deal, I'll let someone else take that question.

It comes with it? Wow... that's awesome. The last phone I had was a Siemens S65 and I had a terrible experience trying to find the right data cable for that phone...
And now you tell me the w800 comes WITH IT? Hah.. that's awesome. But then again, it's perfectly logical that it does being that it is a Walkman phone. The cable's primary use is probably meant to be for music transfer..
And I don't think I'll find a better deal than that.
Thanks :)

Great stuff! Thanks. What about the keypad? It's the only complaint I've heard about the w800i... that the keypad isn't as good as it could be. Is it at all similar to the older S&E T630? That's what I had before the Siemens and I loved the keypad. Worked well for me.
And... ownED? You already got a new one? What did you replace it with!?

hahaha, i bought the Sharp 903SH. its the dogs balls ;)
i love the w800s keypad over the k750. its more responsive. takes a bit to get used to but its nice

The dog's balls? Never heard that one before.. lol. Anyway.. what do you like better about the Sharp than the w800? Just wondering :)
I check out the Sharp and it does look very slick and it appears to have a very good camera.
Thanks for the response about the keypad!

dogs balls = british term :P i like using it
i like the fact the sharp is a clamshell and has the best camera out at the moment. i always wanted a clamshell with a good camera and i managed to pick up this beauty at cost price which was a stunner of a deal .
this is how it goes down
you want an excellent mp3 player, earphones and large memory = w800
you want the best camera out there get the 903
pros of w800
1)mp3 player
2)very responsive
3)easy to use, its SE its the best, its so easy to use
cons of w800
1)cam is so so, compared to the 903 its nothing
2)boring design you ccould get sick of
thats it
903
bad stuff
1)absolutely a pain in the *** to have to trim down an mp3 then copy it over to internal memory to make it a ringtone
2)no outer screen, but the flashing light does help, but i miss just whipping it open and answering instead now i have to press a button
3)******** internal memory
4)games that came with it are such ******** demos.. i duno how to add more and which ones work
5)smudge magnet..god damn, so many times ive freaked out thinkign it was a scratch but it was just a smudge..
6)mp3 player is ****ing ****. i just had a w800 before this and its stupid to compare it but its seriously pathetic. and the thing is if i want to use it as an mp3 player, ill have to buy a larger memory card plus a 3.5mm adapter. which is added cost. added cost i didnt have to pay with the w800
good stuff
1)a ****ing good camera
2.a ****ing good screen
3.a ****ing sleak design
thats about it
i really miss the w800s large internal memory and easy to use style. but the 903s camera just makes me forget it all cause pictures are endless, taking pictures captures memories, and more than music thats waht i want. and i never regret getting it cause capturing pictures of loved ones so clear and crisp instead of taking pics with a w800 camera and have grains and blurriness go through it makes me want to rip my hair out in disgust. with the 903s cam i never have to worry about it. i got tons of pictures taken by the phone. say it and ill post it

Hey.. awesome post, thank you! And ****, go ahead, post some pics. It's odd you say the w800i's camera is so-so. Maybe in direct comparison to the 903? When I first read reviews of the w800 everyone was raving about its camera. I'm sure it's pretty good... plus, I just bought a Canon A620 so I'm not too worried about the camera hah ;). I'm not even getting the w800 for the MP3 player necessarily, although I know I'll have a lot of fun using that.. but simply because I love the design.. I really like the candy-bar design. It's very simple, no moving parts, sturdy, SIMPLE, sleek.. that's that.
The only downside is that if you carry it around in your pocket with other stuff in it like keys.. the display is going to scratch :(. I need some kind of case for it..
From what I've seen, I'm just loving the w800's screen as well, and I really REALLY dig the responsiveness of the phone. That has always been a point of complaint for me with cell phones, but the w800's got it down right.
So much from me right now! Oh yeah... I don't like the clamshell design at all, really, but the 903 does look very cool, I admit :)

i also had to pick between the w800 and the 903. when i got to the store though and quickly saw how big a brick the 903 is i quickly opted for the w800. it is slick looking but very huge.

well, that's why you don't put anything else in the same pocket you have your phone:rolleyes::p
ESPECIALLY KEYS!

Of course.. but that's not always easy. I carry keys, pens, coins... when you stuff all that in one pocket just to give the phone a safe zone in the other things aren't exactly balanced lol :)
But I agree, that't the easiest solution to the problem. I still might have to get some kind of case for the w800.

That's the first thing I thought when I saw it. It's very slick looking, but for me it disqualifies immediately for one reason: clamshell design. I don't like it at all. I've always been a fan of candy bar phone designs so I'm sticking to that. Having that said, the 903 is a very cool looking clamshell model I must admit, even if a bit on the large side.

its so so compared to 903. ill post up some pics soon. its so tricky to get good pictures, with the 903 its just snap and you get the best , its just so easy. the w800s back camera lense cover could piss you off, it feels flimsy. but besides that its pretty well built.
The only downside is that if you carry it around in your pocket with other stuff in it like keys.. the display is going to scratch . I need some kind of case for it..
not really true, i used my w800 for awhile, and the thing is i never baby my stuff, i treat them like gadgets, not babies. i just threw it around, put it in my pocket and stuff and it was fine when i sold it. only time i scratched the bak was when i scraped it along the ground accidentally.
From what I've seen, I'm just loving the w800's screen as well, and I really REALLY dig the responsiveness of the phone. That has always been a point of complaint for me with cell phones, but the w800's got it down right.
responsiveness is awesome, but it doesnt hold a candle to the 903 in screen factor. im not really a screen person, but you notice the difference alot when you switch
So much from me right now! Oh yeah... I don't like the clamshell design at all, really, but the 903 does look very cool, I admit
i never did either, but it started to get to me, cause i love just flipping it open to ccheck msgs and stuff, its so much more cooler. :P

wow.. AWESOME PICS. You sure get around buddy haha.. :)
I can see the difference clearly. The 903 camera has incredible saturation, great colors and very sharp. The w800's pics are more faded and not nearly as sharp. Oh well.. the w800 are good enough for me. I value the overall phone functionality more than the camera.. as I said, I got an Canon A620 just weeks ago and I love it, so I'm not really worried about the cam :). Anyway.. thanks a ton for posting those pics. You just made this thread really cool :D
I congratulate you on the choice of the 903.. the cam really is exceptionally good. The w800's cam is very respectable in its own right. Agreed, it doesn't exactly compete with the 903, but compare it to most other phones on the market and you'll find that the w800 has among the best cams out there.

I'd so go for the 903...if it weren't for the lack of Symbian...plus, it's a bit expensive for just the camera...

i paid cost price ;) and trust me, its worth it! considering alot of digicams out there cost just a bit less.

yeah but so far theres no symbian phone with high end imaging that can match even teh w800.. the n90 is just...pathetic. besides taht theres nothing

I know.. and I don't care. Why? Because it's a completely different design. It's that swivel type thing.. I really didn't want that. It's not really a successor to the w800 as the designs are completely different.
I'm happy with the order :D

idk I tend to agree with him...specs wise it isn't really the successor. Does it have the high-end imaging capabilities?
