Hello people,
I'm in the market for a new cell phone & I have been considering Nokia's for a looong time but recently shifted my attention a bit towards the new SE w800.I would like to know if there's a difference between the two-I mean,the w800 & the w800i or if it's the exact same phone with a slightly different name in certain parts of the world.(it happens with digital cameras...so figured,it might with cell phones too...:) )I tried searching the web for info but didn't come up with anything significant.So,can anyone here help me with this?Thankyou so much in advance.

All it is, is that commonly people refer to it at the W800, but the i is just a version of the banding. In America Sony Ericsson tend to put an a at the end, and a c in china. i is for everywhere else.

Actually:
a = "Americas", i.e. including 850 band in North/South America (and 1800/1900)
i = "international", i.e. the rest of the world on 900 band (and 1800/1900)
c = "China", i.e. a i-version with China-specific software

umm... what does the "mc" stand for, in T68mc? Or what does the "m" stand for in T39m?
cheers!

T68mc is an example of an old Ericsson model name. The first beginning towards the newer naming system came with "T68i" which also was the first model with the Sony Ericsson name. But since then even the prefixes have changed from the later Ericsson times which were A R T (low end to high end). Now the prefixes are more difficult to overview with new variants popping up all the time...
Even the numbering has changed. The rules during the later Ericsson times was that A-models had 4 numbers, R-models had 3 numbers and T models had 2 numbers. The hit model T610 shows, amongst others that this has changed. Most models now have 3 numbers. But there are exceptions such as Z1010
I think (not completely sure) that the "m" stood for 900-band version and "c" for China.

the m stood for the multimedia version.
In this country, the Ericsson T68 was released first, followed by (at the same time I think) the Ericsson T68m and the Sony Ericsson T68i, both of which supported MMS whereas the T68 did not.
I think (correct me if I'm wrong) all Sony did when they changed the brand name was change the colour of the phone and change the m to an i.
So I guess mc would be multimedia-china.

Daedalus, you're probably right regarding m for mms or multimedia...
I think Sony Ericsson took the chance to upgrade both software and hardware between T68m and T68i. Even the plastics on T68i are quite different. The bezel on the front of T68i is smooth and has no engraved "Ericsson"-logo but a printed Sony Ericsson logo. The back part of T68m (including the battery) has some kind of soft touch finish to it. The T68i is distinctly different... So if they did so much on the outside I'm sure they tweeked the interior as well...
hmmm... drifting away from the orignal thread... sorry about that.. :o
