hi there,....... I've just recently sold my p910. Should I now wait for the p990? Say it was you, and you cant wait for the p990 to come out (next year), what would be a good p910 replacement then?
cheers!

P900. its cheap, does almost the same job, and increases ur delightfullness, sense of achievement etc; when u finally get the P990 after using P900 for awhile. You'll be a much happier person than those exchanging to P990 from P910. :)
p.s. P800? --> Happier. :p

lol :D coz it makes the jump, from p900 to p990, that much bigger? hehehe...:D
seriously, I was thinking of a 9500... is that a good choice?
cheers!

The 9300 would be a better choice if your looking in that kind of area.
If you can live without the VGA camera on the 9500 then its a much better choice because its so much smaller and lighter. And yes I know you miss out on WiFi, but that could be something special you can save for your P990 ;)
imo i would get a K750/W800 now and then sell it when the P990 comes out.
and thats what i'm going to do, except that i'm keeping the W800 as 2nd phone.

@deadalus: .... yeah, I do like the size of the 9300, compact and light, plus a qwerty... I think I'll look into that. Not the 9300 but maybe the 9300i, which has wifi already. I wont miss the camera - I barely used the cam on my p910 anyway.
@bart: a w800 would be very nice indeed.... but both that and the k750 aint smartphones, I'd surely miss the added functions of symbian.
thanks
cheers!

9500 ..... u'd end up with a P990 as well. IMO, just get a cheap Nokia S60 device 1st, probably a 7610? or 6600.... those were much more stable than current breed of superb multimedia powerhouses of S60s.... then proceed to P990 when its out. :p

My uncle had sold his p910 too. In fact I think that the p910 is being sold everywhere - I wonder why people are selling it so much?
Anyways, he's now waiting for the N80, or one of the newer N-phones. The N93 seems to be a good choice, only if it's not too big.

I'd go for higher - given the spec, delay of release and obvious cost implications it will be around 850 euros...
Just check the release price of the 9300i and that was a basic spec upgrade and this is a whole new beast...
I'd follow the advice, get a unboxed P900 for peanuts and wait very patiently for the P990i - burying your head in the sand but the air will taste so much sweeter...

I would like to suggest to just getting an N80 or an N73. The p990, even if it comes out tommorrow, is a little OLD already. It has specs and features that's been out since last year - so there's nothing new in it. It doesn't have edge too.

But some people like the UIQ platform...offers huge touchscreen that no S60 device can provide. That in itself is already an edge:cool:

@problematic
if i can still use my t65, then surely i can use an year old phone fo'sure :D
and personally edge performance at my end isnt too good, so i can stick to gprs, or wifi if i need a speed boost.

i would love for you to point out whats old about? there are only 3 other phones that offer wifi, and no others that offer the new version of UIQ. the 2mp camera? its a damn good one, so you cant be complaining about that

Well, for me, it's old because there's nothing "cutting edge" about it now. It has WiFi, yes, but it's only 11b and not 11g. It has a 2mp camera, yet there's are lots of 2mp cam phones out there now - and some 3.2mp camphones. It has a touchscreen - and again, there's lots and lots of touchscreen phones out there too.
The least that SE could have done was to give it that extra band and make it quadband or... give it a 3.2mp cam.... or at least, give it edge, so that those wanting to surf does not to pay 3G prices all the time. (I've tried surfing on a non-edge phone, and believe me, it's very very slow).
Another thing they could've done was to maintain that flexibility of the p900/p910 by making the keypad removable - and NOT STUCK to the front of the screen and making the screen smaller. (the internal qwerty I mean not the keypad).
In other words, if it had come out last January or February - it would be a "head turner" and people will probably be excited just to see it. But now, with all the high-tech and video capable phones that's out now, the p990 is just yesterday's news. The initial excitement of buying one is come and gone now - that it seems almost nostalgic to even get one, in my opinion.
Im not saying that it will be useless - of course, its features will still be very useful. It will be as useful as any other old phone... not useful or "cutting edge" as other new phones though. There's just nothing "new" about it anymore.

But problematic the P990 isn't intended to be a great imaging device, and in many places now 3G is used more than EDGE (well I think so? well in UK we don't even have EDGE).
The reason for the stuck on keypad is because holding the P910 by the flip and typing is akward. The screen is smaller yes, by 6mm length ways, but I don't think it makes a huge difference.
It has the latest version of UIQ, it's primary purpouse is as a PDA.
How many touchscreen UIQ phones are there with the same specs as the P990? In fact touchscreen WinMo phones, the HTC TyTn which is new only has a 2MP camera.
Would be better if it came out earlier but I still think it's a good phone.

I would think that the keyboard on the flip created a lot of stress for the phone too...

everything you said is true but if you think of the p990, it's a perfect compromise for everything. E61 is great but to touch screen and camera. P990 in my opinion has a balance of power and function. True that 2 megapix camera is not impressive anymore. Maybe the upgraded p990 will come out with a 3.2mp already :)

mmm... I dont really use the qwerty on my p910 before... so havin it done 'permanent' on the p990 is turn-off for me. I guess I'd better set my sights on other phones.

the qwerty dosnt seem practical enough, i know a lot of ppl who own p910s and non of use the qwerty regularly.

Hi there...
I have used P800, the hinge at the flip cracked and broke off.
Then I bought P900, the flip keypad was good but after 4 months, after continuous sms usage with the flip, the frame lining around the screen cracked and broke at the place where the flip rests....
I love the UIQ OS but the phones are not durable enough, so I turned to the brick phone, 9500 Nokia. I had experiences before using the 9000, 9110 and the 9210... they never failed me except for the slow processor on the new 9500... it takes ages to load a program, but its a reliable phone.
Next to get? I am interested to try out the E70 or the N93 from Nokia. The P990 got a bit of my attention, but not putting too much hope on it as it seems that the screen is my smaller than it predecessors.
So, its either I am keeping the 9500 until something MUCH better comes around... I am not changing.
P/S : there are loads of applications available for all communicator series to enhance its usage.

Looks like we're in the same boat (topic creator).
