I went to the Sony Ericsson support area on their site and installed the Java update service for my w800i phone and it wont do the the update. It says to do the following:

1. shut down phone and wait 20 seconds
2. connect phone to usb cable and hold down "c" button
3. the update is supposed to start

But this doesnt happen. The phone turns itself back on as soon as the usb cable is reconnected and the "c" button doesnt seem to do anything except it caused the OS to prompt for installing a new driver (a symptom that goes away if you just let go of the "c" button)

So, basically the update doesn't start and my phone remains un-altered.

Has anyone tried this?

Thanks,
jon

are you sure you've installed the UPDATE SERVICE USB DRIVERS? the USB driver included in your package is not for updating firmware.. go to the se update main area and DOWNLOAD the Sony Ericsson D750/K750/W800 Update Service USB driver..

hope this helps

Please take note that you need to press the "C" key of the phone and not of your computer keyboard. Do this while plugging in the USB cable

Make sure you are pressing the "C" key of your phone and not of the computer keyboard while plugging in your USB cable.

i am fairly certain that I installed the update service USB driver. I will double check it. Also, earlier, when I said "c" button I was NOT talking about the button on my computer... i was talking about the phones "clear" button.

I also just noticed that the "symptom" i described earlier is the prompt to install the "update service driver".

Ok, so now I not only have the regular Sony Ericsson w800i USB driver installed but I also have the OBEX Interface USB driver (COM6) and also the WMC Device Management USB driver (COM7). I think everything is installed properly.

ok, i finally got it to work. you cannot hold the "c" for more than 1-2 seconds or else it doesnt fire off the hardware detection thing. now its working.

glad you got it working mate.. i just did an update last night too. :)

But as with the holding of "C" button for more than 2 seconds.. that's weird.. coz when i followed the instructions, it said that i press and hold "c" button and plug the usb cable in.. i didnt know HOW LONG to hold it so i pretty much assume i keep holding the "c" .. eventually decided to let go as i had to use both hands to try and find where i extracted the drivers.... but for sure it was more than 2 seconds.. more like 8-10 seconds..

hmm... maybe it depends on the computer.

im not sure if I really actually got new firmware or not but it did its thing. the user interface looks and acts exactly the same as it did before. I probably just updated the firmware to the same version i already had??? Who knows?

It will tell you if there is no updated firmware than the one you had. The update doesn't usually change the interface, but gives bug fixes.

To check your firmware version, from the standby screen type > * < < * < * (where the arrows are directions on the joystick), then on the menu that comes up go to Service Info > Software Info.

Disc2Phone will not work if you have the newer dot net 2.0 installed.
