A nicer shape, preferably thinner, less crappy-cheap-toy-esque.
A stronger processor,
No stupid permanent keypad, damn it!....lol:rolleyes:
Better video recording
3.2mp camera with xenon flash and 10000 digital zoom
nuclear fusion core power cell.
lol, joke.:D Its orrite me finks, only quarms truly is the design.

EDGE and 850!! And maybe a faster processor and more internal memory (although 80MB is still pretty good)

na, 80mb is more than enough when you can still use cards.
i think it shouldve had a better back design and shouldve been slightly smaller.

I too think that the 3.5mm audio jack is not present. Its no where visible in the pics.
One thing that the P990 is lacking is stereo sound. The W600 has two speakers then why not P990.

Still, on the point of all those things compressed into one, perhaps yes it can be considered compact.
I was just thinkin about size as a phone, rather far from compact.

maybe a 300mhz processor? hehe...:D that's asking a bit too much I think.

From the feedback, a phone with almost everything requested should be available at the same time.
HTC Hermes, scheduled for 1Q 2006 too, size should be similar to HTC Wizard, which measures only 108 x 58 x 23.7 mm. Specification - UMTS, EDGE, GPRS, HSDPA, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 416Mhz Intel, 2 Megapixels Camera with Flash, one Video Cam (front), QWERTY keyboard. Wizard has stereo speakers, likely that Hermes will have it too.
The only things missing is a Dialpad, Symbian OS, and probably a lousy camera like most HTC products till now...... well, I know the differences is HUGE, but at least it prove that all the P990 and the additional features can be pack into a much smaller case, :)
PS: I've a idea on adding a dialpad to the Wizard, hopefully I could get a Wizard soon to work on it... :)

Listen to the expert FOOLS ! (lol .. joking)
P990 lacks:
1. A 5-way jog dial to cater for P-Series advocated
2. A S700-liked back design
3. A more than 1260 mAh battery
4. A larger Stylus
5. A non-sticker stype 'QuickShare' emblem at the front (They dropped often)
6. A 640x480 16 million color screen
7. A 400mhz processor
8. 128MB of RAM

umm...maybe they left that stuff for the P1000 or something..
Nah, except for the look and 16 million colours, everything mentioned is already available in existing phone, P1000 needs to have somethong extra... maybe the nuclear fusion cell that Jose wish for... I will be satisfy with a nuclear fission cell though, :D

the P910 already chewed battery like a mofo due to the 262k screen, and you want a 16M color screen? .....that should make the P990 last for about 5 minutes!
and there is a jog dial!

Screen color depths doesn't affect consumption much, the brightness does. Its just the capability of the screen, not that it need to use 4million out of 16million to display 'red'.
And for the qwerty, remember bringing up menus and return to previous pages using P910's jog? Well u cant do that with P990. It's a 3-way jog, Up-Down-Enter .... sucks
Picture of Treo Wannabe
LoL~ Thank god...

Like i said, i explained the 3-way jog and the 5-way jog.
The back of P990 ain't really salivating
1260mAh battery, IMO ain't enough for P990
The miniscule stylus of P910 is already a pain
'QuickShare' logo fells off easier than Michael Jackson's NOSE!
208mhz processor ain't enough for this thing, watch the video Arne Anka posted. It's LAGGY !
80mb of RAM ain't enough for transffering an 81MB file thru Bluetooth, or Wifi!!!

*hear attack*...
I think if theyre ever gonna make PDA's (or other large screened devices) with keypads, the form factor should be slider to hide it away (or some other clever way of hiding the keypad...like er not having one)
Like someone said before (cant recall who and in which thread) that I prefered the ability of being able to remove the keypad so the pxxx would look like proper PDA's.
commedecargons
10-12-2005, 11:37 AM
agreed, this is again, a proven un-practical form factor.
Huge connection speeds, yet the screen size is compromised, by a qwerty that we'll seldom use (in comparison with calling), and the keypad is also compromised. Stupid copycats !
Think P990, SX66, 6280 and EXX?? (The one dat looked liek 6280. :)

You quoted wrong person.
Like i said, i explained the 3-way jog and the 5-way jog.
With the size of P990 and with all new functions added, there was no room left for a 5-way jog according to SE them self. But you have a 5 (??) way directional pad instead.
1260mAh battery, IMO ain't enough for P990
You seem to forget technology progress. Components of today consume less power than they did one or two years ago. So even with additional features, you ca run longer with a P990 than a P910 with same battery capacity (remain to be seen in reality).
208mhz processor ain't enough for this thing, watch the video Arne Anka posted. It's LAGGY !
At this early stage, that's more caused by buggy/unfinished software rather than weak CPU.
80mb of RAM ain't enough for transffering an 81MB file thru Bluetooth, or Wifi!!!
Then transfer it from the external card. Why do you have to transfer it from the internal memory.

Once you've opened the keypad, you can no longer use it as you could with a P910.

A HP PDA (forgotten the model number) had a 1800mAh battery, around the size of P910's wouldn't that be great?
At this early stage, that's more caused by buggy/unfinished software rather than weak CPU..
Hopefully. :)
Then transfer it from the external card. Why do you have to transfer it from the internal memory.
If SE would go SD or micro SD, then thats not a problem, but no other used memory stick, hence a bigger RAM is needed when u wanna transfer bigger files thru Bluetooth, or WiFi (if it's WiFi is P2P enabled.) :)

Prove me wrong by pointing out where I have said that.
Once you've opened the keypad, you can no longer use it as you could with a P910.
No, but you can use it in a way you could not use P910 (not necessarely a bad wy). ;)

The battery of P990 is smaller (to fit all new stuff) than in P910 although they have same capacity. It is possible, that with current technology it is not possible to make such a small battery of 1800 mAh. The choise would be to increase the size of P990 and make it a bit heavier to fit a bit larger 1800 mAh battery instead (just speculation from my side).
If SE would go SD or micro SD, then thats not a problem, but no other used memory stick, hence a bigger RAM is needed when u wanna transfer bigger files thru Bluetooth, or WiFi (if it's WiFi is P2P enabled.) :)
There are other than Sony that actually use MS (like Fujitsu), so your not entirely correct. Even if that was not the case, your statement simply does not make any sense. Perhaps you mena they should have provided a bigger MS (80 MB is the internal memory, while the provided MS is 64 MB, but someone got the info P990 will come with an 256 MB MS).

Hey, the 5 way jog dial of p910 was really good. But plz everyone look at the side of P990. It has a back button at least. That decreases one of the way of the jog dial.
One more thing I would want in P990 is Strereo sound. Why they dont add two speakers in P990 as they did with W600.

well, if i'm not wrong, the internal ram acts as the buffer stage where everything sent in was saved there first, and then the UI lets us choose on whether to have it in the internal memory, or the external one. :)
This is the main problem with S60 users where previously most S60 devices were fit with either 6MB ram or 8mb. :)

the design, I'd like to note it is bearable, not more.
Wow, side by side, the design really does make it "look" bigger than the p900.
the esthetics of such models, probably, we should remember the example of Nokia N70, which is now one of the most thought over candybar, keeping the style and the contents.
the first minutes of dealing with the phone, then irritation grows
Now working with one hand it much worse, advanced users are shortened in capabilities
One more unpleasant point is the P990 has no standard headphone output onboard.
(you can remove the flip at all).
nooooooooo
in half a year we can expect a version of the P990 without a QWERTY-keypad.
YAY!
This device will be about two cm shorter and will come closer to the K750 in height.
EVEN MORE YAY!
Due to the fact the 2MP camera is completely equal to Sony Ericsson K750i, we won't discuss it at all.
Awesome! too bad it dont have macro, and that it has the video capabilities of the k750i too. (i hope they make an app to improve it, like in s60)

mmm.... that was a bit of a surprise. I mean, MR has always been leaning to SE products (in fact eldar is quite big fan of SE), but the overall theme of this p990 review is negative not positive. Does it mean that MR is now changing its ways?
Twice, he mentioned that the N70 is more well thought-of than the p990... that's quite a turn-around, dont you think so?

YAHUH.
I was expecting near orgasmic "wow, the best phone ever!" but lots of truths were told this time about the many negatives this has.
OR Maybe its because Eldar is such a big S.E. fan that he feels the p990 is a let down to the glorious S.E. reputation and thus is really willing to shoot it. lol.
Don't really care, as long as MR keep making these super early teaser reviews. I think they really like the n70 over there.

Internal ram is 64 MB. Internal storage is 80 MB. You don't need 81 MB RAM to transfer an 81 MB file. With 64 MB RAM you can transfer files of any size.
