If am correct, the screen size is the same!!!
Just got this info from friends in Hong Kong. Price should be around $750 - 850 USD. I'm so getting it if it comes out in Christmas, coz i'll be back home in Christmas. SE HK please release it soon!

yeah, but in reality the screen size is only a tad smaller than the P910. I doubt most people will be bothered by it.

mmm.... I dont really like the design - it seems antiquated now - having started from the p800 a few years ago. Plus the weight and thickness - I wish they made it lighter, and thinner.
The screen size was reduced by 4mm? At least it's not by much. However the "coolness factor" of having it look like a PDA is now gone. Unlike in the p900 where you can take out the keypad - this one now has a permanent one.
That very same keypad would be useless for me I think, coz im a big guy, tall, and have large fingers - which is exactly the same reason that I never use that dimunitive itsy-bitsy qwerty keypad of the p910. One press always involves two keys. (especially irritating if its snowing and you're wearing gloves).
The specs are nice though... but I think I'll try and test one out before I make a decision on buying it. I already find my p910 a bit laggy, with this new UIQ, new camera, and other features tacked on to it - I hope that they dont slow the phone down. The phone's speed, or rather its lack of it, would be the dealbreaker for me.
cheers!

wtf?!? the keypad's permanent? hmm...... there are pros and cons i guess. Not much of a problem there, initially the previous p900 and p910, they have to cater for the design of giving users the pleasure to have a electronic keypad, and also ease of disassembling it, hence IMO, resulted in certain reliability issues (my keypad's gone stupid, registering wrong key inputs) I do think this trade off is a fair one, a detachable keypad with less reliability, and a permanent one where it's functional yet reliable. :)
Yupe, diffenbaker, i agree with you, my main concern is the miniscule 208mhz processing speed. :(

The 6680, 6681 and 6630 has an ARM9 223MHZ processor. With WiFi, UIQ 3.0, Touchscreen, and 2mp camera...... the p990 might be a slow and laggy phone indeed.

it looks kinda same when viewed from the side, the flip is still thick as it were in P910, P900.

ooo err...I forgot about speed. Crickey, the almost perfect phone, would be ironic if it couldnt handle all the features.

About the speed. I think we gotta just wait and c!!! Dont think SE is that stupid tho!!!
I like the new P990i a lot. But so far I still like P910i since I've had it before hehe. I think P910i & P900i both looks good with the keypad flip on, but I think P990i looks very ugly with the keypad flip on, once I get it, I MUST take it off pernanmently. It looks very stylish with the internal keyboard, kinda like Treos'. For all the pics I have seen, I still cannot really tell how nice the keys on the keyboard are, wish they aint cheap looking plastic crap ;)

yeah, that COULD be a problem... but saying that a phone is slow based solely on its processor speed isn't the whole story. Maybe UIQ 3.0 is more efficient? Or maybe it has a way of compressing the photos so it would be faster in browsing?
I have to agree with Boasy... better to just wait and see. As he said, SE aint that stupid. (to tack on so many features then have the phone lag).
cheers!

He could use a hammer or something similar. The phone would not look nice afterward and perhaps not even function. But at least he won't have to glare at the QWERTY keyboard. http://forums.mobileburn.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

The price tag alone should make the choice simple. http://forums.mobileburn.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

P990 hands down.
200+ MHz is actually quite good for a smartphone, poor performance of the OS has been a major cause of the slowness of Symbian devices.
However, Symbian 9 is a much improved version and uses a much better compiler than the previous versions, so the speed may not be an issue although the processor speed doesn't improve.
The effect of the improvement in the new OS is that it is incompatible with the old versions, so all software have to be recompiled to work on the new OS, so don't dream on using your existing application on the new OS, :(

I'd have 100% confidence with a 200mhz processor running Palm. But I cant felt the speed of a 524mhz Pocket PC. :D
