um....what kind of logic is that?
or should I say what kind of 2 random opinions, that have nothing to do with each other, is that?
Well if you read the front page properly you would know why there is a delay for the X70 review.

Hi Tazxxx
Seeing as you're on Orange. I hope you don't mind if I pick your brain a bit...
First, are the themes locked down to Orange's own? That sickly Orange colour would make me ill eventually!
Second, could you tell me how to change a theme to a new one? I want to be able to try this out in the shop when I go to test the X70.
Third, are there any other restrictions because the phone is on Orange?
Fourth, does the Bluetooth functionality allow you to DL ringtones etc from your PC? And will the phone operate on standard MIDI files, or do I need to hunt out a converter?
Thanks mate. I might have other Q's too, but I think this is quite enough to start with!
Hope you can reply to me before 2nd Jan (when I expect to buy an X70!)

Hi Tazxxx ----- hi
Seeing as you're on Orange. I hope you don't mind if I pick your brain a bit... ---- not at all
First, are the themes locked down to Orange's own? That sickly Orange colour would make me ill eventually! ----No you can change the themes to any of the 7 built in- 3 nice ones of different blues, cherry red (the orange coloured one-defualt at first), pink, green and gold.
Second, could you tell me how to change a theme to a new one? I want to be able to try this out in the shop when I go to test the X70.-----------you go onto menu | Data folders (bottom left) |Themes, and then theres a list of them 7.
Third, are there any other restrictions because the phone is on Orange? ------------Erm...Well all i can think of is the menu icons are kind of orange and white cartoon type pictures instead of the colour more real loking panasonic ones, if you really want i can find a picture of the two. Oh and its not an orange thing but an X70 thing-it hasnt got java so you have to download games from orange for £1.50 each. And you can only have one game at once..havnt been able to find and downloadable ones as yet...and im not sure if it would work form the computer...would it bother you much?
Fourth, does the Bluetooth functionality allow you to DL ringtones etc from your PC? And will the phone operate on standard MIDI files, or do I need to hunt out a converter? ----Erm....i have been sent ringtones via bluetooth from another phone, but havnt been able to get hold on a bluetooth donlge as yet so i dont know from a computer (although i dont see any reason why you shoudlnt be able to). The software that comes with the computer can only upload to the phone via infa red and a data cable so you would have to use the software that came with the dongle. And yes it can use both .mid and .mmf at least-havnt tryed any others on it yet.
Thanks mate. I might have other Q's too, but I think this is quite enough to start with! ----If your buying it tomorrow you might want to ask all the questions you can now, or try the panasonic section of the english forum here (http://www.mobile-review.com) theres a few people who have X70s who post often and theres posts qith other questiosn that you mgiht want to have answered too.
Hope you can reply to me before 2nd Jan (when I expect to buy an X70!) ---- How are you buying it? and where from.

I'm buying the x70 from Phones4U on the Orange tariff - I get a 50 pound cashback from them and the phone's only £25, so I have some cash to put towards a bluetooth headset and dongle for my PC ;)
Thanks for the prompt reply, Tazxxx!

No problem.
Oh and i forgot to tell you that all that informaton was form firmware version A20, bought mid november time. The klatest is A29, which is what you shoudl get and so might be slightly different tow hat ive said and also might be very slightly different to the display model.
But remember you can get an upgrade to the latest version from the carphone warehouse for free.

Thanks Apmoy!
I just posted another two in a new thread
Basically, are there any niggles with the phone that would put you off recommending it? Any problems I need to know about in advance? I think most of my worry was based around the Orange branding, and 1 thing seems to have come up already - the games are different.

Ah, this is interesting. Is there an easy way to find the firmware version? Again, it'd be interesting to check this out in the shop.
And will CPW flash the firmware for free even if I bought it elsewhere?

To find the firmware version you trun the phone off and then before it can find teh network put in *#9999# and it will come up wiht loads of stuff, the Axx bit i the interesting bit eg. A18 or A29...
Yes they do it for free wherever its bought aslong as its in warranty-thats normaly 12 months.
source (http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/commerce/servlet/gben-customerservices-Repairs#i) :
Can you upgrade my software version?
Manufacturers often release updated versions of software, to enhance the technical performance of their mobile phones. Our Express Repair Centres can perform many software upgrades, on site, the same day. This service is free of charge to all customers, provided the phone is still within warranty. If your phone is out of warranty, a small charge will apply. To find out whether a software upgrade is available for your mobile phone, please contact your nearest Express Repair Centre. (Please see below for details).
on that page there is a list of center things but it can be done at any shop-but will take more time, somehwere between 7 and 9 days. If i remember rightly you live in glasgow, and there is an express store there: "Glasgow 72 Renfield Street,
Glasgow G2 1NQ 0141 332 7677".

My advice: Don't buy a device with a firmware version older than A18
The (-): Its camera is not so good (it has these annoying blue dots, especially if you're trying to take night photo). Its stand by time is short (it reaches 3 days max). It reproduces only 16 chords polyphonic ringtones (very clear though, not so loud also. If you have the PsmPlayer v5.0, try to convert the midi files, you're about to upload to your device, to MMF files. They're VERY-VERY loud). Poor T9 capabilities.
The (+): Amazing looks. TFT display, beyond comparisson (its brightness & clearness leave you speachless). Wonderful & very easy UI. Its menu structure is very friendly. Fast BT. Big memory pool (total 6.8 MB-4 MB for sound & image files-2 MB for MMS-800 KB for e-mail). Unlocked IrDA port (you can upload practically everything). That's it! Hope I helped you

Thank you very much, you two have helped me a lot. Basically, I think I'll go for it. The only other phones I like function-wise are the SE Z600 and the Motorola V600/500. The Motorola phone book puts me off, and the Z600 is just too fat!

Either imnot looking properly or i dont get blue dots?!?!
And the battry life should go up to 4-6 days after a month of charging apparently (i read somehwere thats what their local carphone warehouse bloke said). THe annoying things i can think of is that when sending via bluetooth when you select it the paired devices come up, and you have to select search...Not really a problem at all for most people but if you forget and are trying to keep your phone hidden when bluejacking (http://www.bluejackq.com) it can be annoying. And also this shoudl be a problem for most people that dont bluejack but if you want to revice via bluetooth (or infa red) you have to go to a certain screen which waits for somethign to be sent.
If you dont know what bluejacking is then forget them points but if you do or find it interesting when youv read about it at www.bluejackq.com then it can be annoying.
