Does anyone know of a way to mod the 8910 to work in the US?

I purchased one overseas (obviously without doign enough research
first) and am now stuck with an unlocked, but unuseable phone.

Thanks.

What would be the point of a mod? I don't think there's a way, or at least relatively easy way, of changing frequencies...only what Nokia made is what you can get. What ever phone doesn't have 1900MHz and/or 850MHz in any variant simply won't work...

The point was to see if you *can* mod the freq. I don't know exactly
how hard it is to do that, so I just asked. I was pretty sure that it
was not a trivial thing by any menas, but wanted to knowif it
was possible, and if so, how $$$ it would be.

There is no way of doing it, to be honest as the phone is knocking on a bit now (still a beautiful phone) it wouldn't be cost effective even if there was. I recommend you sell it on ASAP to retrieve most of the cost. I believe there might have been a US version of this phone but as it's not my domain I can't be sure.

Ah ok then.

I just found my 7650 - that phone revolutionised the mobile phone market, it really did, I think I might keep it for sentimental value.

Hehe along with your other 30 phones?:silly:

Yeah I hate how Nokia used to deprive us of the coolest phones, like the 8910 for example and the 7650, 7200, 7600...I know the latter is apparently crap, but it's cool and innovative!

mmmm...... the first thing you have to do is to find a spare 8890, one that you can trash. Then have someone exchange the antenna, tuner, and board with that of the 8910.

I've seen it done once - a friend of a friend is using his phone now in NY. Took him 3 8890's and 1 8910 (which got totally trashed) to get it right ... but he now has bragging rights to having the only usable 8910 in the US.

cheers!

Are you sure? 8910 hardware is totally different not to mention a whole generation ahead of the 8890; one is DCT-4 other is DCT-3.

heh be simpler to get an 8890 not much different in terms of features. it would work well with t-mobile

Well bar colour screen, bluetooth, autmated slider - I think the 8890 is allot better looking and battery life is comparable... Shame the US had the annoying toothpick aerial though, our UK 8850 was also a slightly lighter hue of silver....

yeah, that crossed my mind too, it's like those two are a whole generation apart! But that's what he said. Anyhow it wasn't the whole phone though just some parts of the 8890 that they took out...

cheers!

PCB design is completely different too, 8890 uses a metal contact for the slide, 8910 uses a flexi-ribbon attachment. I wouldn't think it sounded right unless he showed it to you or pictures, cos even the antenna block is totally different.
