just got a news update from one of the techie sites...samsung will soon be producting a 1GB MMCMOBILE card.MMCMOBILE is the same as DV-RSMMC card that the new nokia phones use(except for ~52Mbps transfer speeds).

Although we wont be able to take advantage of the higher transfer speeds on the current range of handsets more room is always a good thing.Cheers to Samsung!

1gb rsmmc has been out for sometime now...just the other day i went to the store to check on the price of a 512DVRSMMC.Later that night i got news of the 1gb version.Better to wait till the 1gb is out than get a 512mb card(i have a 256 now).Although the cards are really easy to change i prefer not changing them at all...well i'm just lazy i guess!!!But be warned i dont think that we will get much more than 800mb of actual storage on the 1gb card.

why whats going to happen to the 200MB?

actually, you get 948mb usable capacity out of a 1gb card at the most. Still quite good.

why whats going to happen to the 200MB?

Because 'Advertised' size is a lie..

Advertised:
1 GB = 1,000,000,000 Bytes

Actual:
1 GB = 1,073,741,824 Bytes

So 'Advertised' numbers will report ~ 7% larger storage than there actually is..

I thought advertised is 1024MB?

Either way, I only get 473MB out of my 512MB...already running out haha:p

I'm with gauravdc...I don't like switching cards either (mainly cause I don't have hotswap) but also because it's wears the memory card out, no matter how minimal each time

how does swaping wear the memory out? do you loose 10MB for every swap?

:P

yeah, I didn't know that swapping wears out cards.

Has it got something to do with scratching them whilst they are being removed?

Anyway I've got 489.727 out of by 512mb card (thats 95.65 %(3dp))

Ive ran out of memory ages ago, but i can't delete until i save things to PC, but i can't to that until I receive this bluetooth dongle (cos i cut up my data cable - after running over it then fixing it then breaking it again) :(

LOL maybe you shouldn't try and fix it again:p

Idk seeing the marks on the contacts gives me qualms...just wearing out the contacts maybe? Idk I just don't like to do it...same with the SIM

Well i think it would be different for memory cards since they are designed to be taken out /removed/taken out/removed..etc hence hot swap.

Sim cards are normally meant to stay in a phone for eeever! lol. their contacts not only scrach esasy but the metal also oxidises very easily, thats why you arent supposed to be swapping sims constantly, but then why would you?

Yeah, I thought it would be marwan who'd be answering that.

So you physically swap the sims all the time? what a bother! why not just get another sim, its not like you can't afford it! lol :P

But still, the greater percentage of users will not be doing this, if as frequent as the exceptional others, sims werent designed for hotswap.

i dont want to get a new number with the new sim, that would be a pain. but out provider offers twin sims. 2 sims with the same number....but i heard that they're a bit if a hassle, only the last sim you made the call from would be the active one, the other sim would act as if the phone is turned off.

I think that's a very good idea dual sims, which only need to be used (ie in making a call) to activate it.

marwan

but i want a sim card with telepathic power that knows which phone i'm going to use, and automatically activates itself!

I Think the nokia guys are still working on that!

Yeah there are aftermarket dual SIMs...it wouldn't be that hard to just call to activate, takes like 5 seconds...

actually it takes around 7 seconds.

Its not bad though, much much less time than physically switching sims, turning 1 phone off, removing back cover, taking battery out, removing sim, taking cover of other phone, removing that batter inserting sim and turning that on.

Definitely much less of a hassle...

I'm sorry marwan for being off by two seconds:o

Holy cow. I'd wait for it to come down to $100 before I'd buy that.
