I bought a Nokia 7210 off of e-Bay. The seller thought it was unlocked.

I recieved it and popped in my T-Mobile SIM, and, behold... It's locked.

I contacted the seller, he doesn't know what network it's locked to.

I did a bit of research, and it turns out AT&T Wireless offered the 7210 on its network. I downloaded an unlock calculator and tried a few codes... No luck. I can probably enter one more wrong code before I have to use a cable.

1) Can I use the phone's IMEI to find out what network it was on?

2) Is there another way to find out what network its locked to?

3) Can I use a DKU-5 cable to unlock it? If so, is it possible to get that software for free?

Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken, all AT&T phones have a AWS serial number in addition to the IMEI in the back of the phone...that would confirm whether or not it's an AT&T phone or not. Can you not ask him more about where he got the phone and the phone's history and stuff?

As to #2, I'm not sure of any other way but knowing from the owner...there's no operator branding or anything ANYWHERE on the phone??

#3, you can't use the DKU-5 to unlock...only unlocking clips can do the job.

If you can't figure out the network it's locked to, your only hope is to take it to a professional unlocker. I know of one in California you can send the phone in to, if you don't have one locally...

Well, it's made in Finland... And was produced on 12-11-04 (Wow, I didn't know they still made 7210s up until that time) and was, of course, approved in Finland.

I found that information using an online IMEI tracker.

If it's that new, I doubt it was locked to AT&T.

Since yu're not able to figure out the carrier it's locked to, I think it's safe to assume your only option is to just send it in to the phone shop to have a professional unlocker work his/her magic...

Btw, what's the online IMEI tracker...would you mind giving the URL?

Did you try codes second to the last yet ? Second to the last always works be careful if im not mistaken you can only do it four times or if you go over you will lock your phone.

For me it's usually been either the last or first code...then again, we are in different countries
