Alrighty so heres the story, i got a Sidekick II on its way totally unlocked. I want to use the data from Cingular. Does anyone know the settings i'll need to get it up and running? Lemme know it would be a huge help!

Thanks guys!

It's intended purposes like IMing and full-page web browsing and e-mail probably won't work, seeing as how Cingular doesn't have Danger's servers that're dedicated for this purpose...I'm just assuming, but I don't think the Sidekick II will be anymore than a phone on Cingular's network...

No it wont. IF you can get the CSK unlocked, you can pop a SIM in there from Cing, and can use the Phone and SMS features only. OF course, all the rest of the functions are tied to Dangers back end service, so nothing you put into the unit will be preserved, that is if there is a loss of data.

If you want full functionality, go with Tmo on it. :)

i have a questions my neighbor just got a come up on a sidekick 2 and he sold it to me for 50 bucks and i have cingular, i really dont care for the whole aim or messenger crap or to go on line since i work at an office and can use the internet when i please, all i reallly want it for is to type text messages to my wife since i cant talk on my cell at work. so will the text still work. cuz it gets stupid on a reg phone. lol so will the text messaging still work??? and will i get good reception??

Since voice and SMS work over GSM, if your system is unlocked, thats all you can use - which seems like thats all you want.

There you go.

BUT...... you never know what may happen :)

IMO, its stupid to use such large phone such as the sidekick if you arent going to use it for its data. Plus it doesnt have 850, so it might not work in some places with cingular

Mostly if you are on the West coast and the south. Anyone know where he is
? I am in the North East and 1900 works fine here alone.

o, i know they use 850 here in New York because my friend was using the T68i here and she had no service in her apartment. Switch to the E317 and voila, full service.

Why don't you get another smaller phone with a keypad? Like a Nokia 6820?

i have a 6820 for sale :) its notin the best condition but... haha.

Using 850 in the north east dosnt mean its needed, though if regular towers dishing out 1900 are faulty of cannot be connected to reliablely, of course, other measures are used to connect - like other bands such as 850.
