i bought one for my mother to replace her old beaten up 7250i and she seems quite happy with it. i also tested it for a few days and i think that overall, it's a good phone. it is considered a middle-range phone. if you're just gonna get it for back up then it should be more than enough. but if you're into all the new features, then it falls short. design is quite attractive but looks a little like some of the samsungs. but i just wish they did away with the external antenna. on the other hand, there are no signal problems. the main screen is big and quite clear. but the camera is so-so. sound quality is also very good - especially the loudspeaker. But mp3 files aren't as clear or as loud as midi's or amr's. The radio is pretty good though. no problems with the keypad either. i did not experience any problems with bugs or any of that stuff. i heard some people say that the battery life isn't very good, but i managed 3 days with a lot of sms, some calls and even some games. price ranges from PhP11,000 (unwarrantied open-line units) to PhP14,000 (with 1-year warranty for service and parts) [that translates to about a range of 160-205 euros or 200-250 usd]. disadvantages are lack of bluetooth and limited memory (only 4mb). for the same price range, you can get a k700 or a 6600, both of which are far richer in features.

Yeah, I agree it's overpriced right now, but definitely the price will drop immensely so I'm not too concerned about price...
I'd love to get it, if not for myself (as a secondary phone) then my mother, who is quite unhappy with her Samsung e315. She doesn't understand the UI, which to be honest is understandable considering the little quirks...
After having to put up with the 3300, I was put off by S40, but having played around with my friends 3220, I think I've fallen in love with S40, although of course not to the extent that I am to S60:rolleyes: Still, it's much improved since the 3300...most especially screen quality and UI...

GSMarena.com had a pretty positive review of it as well. Downsides exatly the same as mentioned here: no BT, smallish memory, external antenna.

LOL the thing I don't agree with that is that most of the people who buy this phone aren't gonna be concerned with BT or memory, which of course discounts them as cons. The external antenna is a subjective thing...personally, I like stub antennas on flip-phones cause it retains their phoneness:D I just hate the extendable whip antennas though...

is it fast? how good is the screen? is the camera quality just the same as the 7650?

Carcomptoy, I do agree that most people who buy this phone have either no use for BT (VERY few people connect their phones to laptops with BT or use headsets) or don't even know what the hell it is. Also, most people are not savvy enough to calculate how many pics they can save in the 4MB or, again, they have no notion whatsoever how much 4MB is in the first place. :)

Hi all, I'm new here, but I wanted to chime in on the 6101...
I just got the 6101 and its been pretty good so far...I actually got it as a free upgrade under my fathers corporate plan, and I unlocked it to use on my fido plan...
The memory is a little small but I do not plan to load any games on it, and each picture takes up about 40k, if I need the space I'll just backup my pictures to my Dell Axim with the IR port (40k is a pretty fast transfer even on IR)...the camera isn't the best but what do you expect from a phone...especially a free phone, in my case...Battery life has been amazing so far, and reception is a lot better than my previous motorola and siemens phones...both very old mind you...
I also like the big keys on the keypad, I was getting tired of phones having smaller and slicker keypads...

It's a poor phone in all respects, from the su-market screen to awkward charging adapter - svoid like the plauge and wait for the superior 6060 with Knight Rider light - makes it worth buying on that merit alone...

What makes it so bad??
You always seem so pessimistic on phones, 666joe! Honestly, I never know with you...:p
