mmm.... wonder what's so stupid about it? Coz you think it doesn't deserve it? If I remember correctly - the T610 was also voted this award a few years back. To think that that phone had one of the lousiest RF performances ever - and is terribly slow too. Yet people didn't find it stupid then, did they?
Comparing the N90 to the k750...well, recent tests have shown that the k750 took a hit in the quality of its video when the new firmware was released. In fact, SE has yet to correct this, right? And even eldar (MR) admits that the N90 is better when taking macros. So if not for the photos alone the N90 does excel in other features too.
Deviating from just the camera (which tends to catch our attention more often these days) - the N90 also has 3G, symbian, EDGE, and a larger more higher resolution screen. I think that this all-in-one-package approach is what made EISA give it that award.
Notwithstanding the fact that that 'carl zeiss' name is just a marketing gimmick, and that the phone doesn't vibrate, or because it's big and bulky... I still think it's a good enough phone on its own.
cheers!

difen my friend u missed my sarcasm on it.... n90 has just won an award..... just how many people around the world actually have the handset..
im not doubting the credentials of the handset it plainly rocks its the pricing and non availability of it which is making me laugh at the url ive posted above...
awards should be given on selling perfomance and actual units not just platitudes

But the award is not given by the people around the world that buy (very few awards are given out by the consumer). This one is given by the media, those people have had the phone for while now.

Awards should not be given based on selling performance, as an crap that is given away for $2.00 could win then you would still be going on about it.
Get over it. They have given the award, it's done, and the N90 is not undeserving of it, just that some people believe that there are better ones. That is pretty much what happens with all awards. There are always better products is some peoples eyes.

Methinks phone of the year people may be some of theluckiest in the world....give it 4 weeks for a serious evaluation of Data, Voice and imaging tests - submission approval and press release looks like they had a Beta version....
That can only mean the finished article will be even better than the one they used...

It definitely does deserve it...it's the most well-rounded phone right now. Definitely have to agree with Moby that market performance isn't necessarily a key factor...after all, remember the best seller 3310/3390? Wildly successful, but not exactly cutting edge. Same with the Moto T72x, which was wildly popular (in the US anyways) as well...good phone, but crappy screen and crappy attached camera. With cars, it's the same...award winning supercars aren't exactly selling in volumes...I guess one could consider the N90 the supercar of phones: excessive and overthetop but just plain AWESOME...:p
However, it does reflect on the phone...I mean, if people aren't gonna buy it, there's obviously something wrong with it...or in this case, has been delayed multiple times:rolleyes:

(...)the phone doesn't vibrate(...)
I didn't get too interested in the N90 (TOO pricy for me :p ), but how can't a phone these days vibrate? It's just plain stupid for me! When I think Nokia is starting to get things right, there they go screwing up everything with simple things! I know I'm picky, and a little (OK, no so little) annoying, but I used to hate 9xxx series for the lack of vibration, and now they are doing the same thing with the N90!?!?
I'm getting a Motorola or a SE and escape this Finn Madness...

on the EISA thing, i think the award was given for the "design"... then again, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, right...

It's an interesting design, and a novel one, too. That doesn't mean it is practical, though.
Winning a design award has no bearing on how a device will actually function in the real world. That's why we don't drive cars that look like the concept cars you see in shows. Great designs, but not practical.
