well i have made a career change to verizon wireless from cingular. so far, benefits, compensation, and just about EVERYTHING else is far superior to what cingular provided their employees. i am still sketchy about using cdma but since its free, ill use it.

good move as long as u are not paying for it who cares... maybe we can expand our coverage into cdma handsets too... cdma is a robust technology and some opinions from the other side are always welcome

NOOOOOOOOOOOO............
Seriously though, I would use Verizon as well if I can only switch handsets easier, without calling them up. Verizon has probably the best coverage in the USA. I find that with GSM, I can get the latest and gratest without making a huge effort. Just pop the chip out and switch phones.

Switching with Verizon can be done on the website, which is painless.
My issue is that they mess up the UI on their phones, and have few interesting models to start with.

Isn't it the e815? In any case, good luck with that...I guess no more Cingular/T-Mobile arguments, eh?:p

While you can switch phones over the web, it's still a pain in comparison to just switching SIM cards, especially if you don't have internet service handy at the time. If they had RUIM cards like Korea then I wouldn't mind...
I definitely agree that's my biggest annoyance with Verizon...they butcher their phones' UIs just like their 45% shareholder parent Vodafone, and they definitely don't have a phone that really really gets me excited. I'm sure though that the VCAST must be amazing! Still, I'd hate nothing having the possibility of getting numerous kinds of phones from all over the world and being able to use it here in the States...you're so limited when it comes to CDMA...and don't tell me to get the Korea phones from WirelessImports because since they're only single band you have to make sure your area uses 800MHz...even then, if you roam you won't get the best coverage:rolleyes:

hmm yea cdma is limited. in some sense in coverage terms its damn good..

But these days what's the point of having good coverage if you don't have a totally awesome phone?

carcomptoy dude... no point in arguing that ... but for most people being able to call with good coverage and an ok phone is just fine...
hence why india's second largest operator today is a cdma company that has gathered 10 million subscribers in a yr and a half or so of operation. and made lg/samsung cdma a household name

Right, most people in the world are concerned most with being able to make a call, not with looking good while doing it....

right on michael ..
especially in lower income countries like mine where cell penetration is still low its the budget handset that rules . I mean what does a local cab driver care about looks as long as he has a good handset with very good coverage cheap rates on roaming and strong network he is quite happy .

I agree wholly - but in the UK handsets are moving towards the premium end more than the budget models...same in Sweden and Denmark....
For lower income markets I fully understand....

the one thing that i am surprised over is the differernce in employee compensation. honestly, i worked for cingluar corporate and did not get paid DICK. With verizon, it is a whole different story. my job is basically the exact same thing but i make THREE times the income, no bs. verizon hr is easy to get a hold of and work with, management is great, and everyone loves there jobs. Cingular was a ****ty company to work for. I don't have my employee line yet so i really can't comment on service differences but on the employment side verizon is FAR superior.

I know, but I'm just saying how if it is possible to fully take advantage of what a network has to offer, not necessarily that it has to be so...

Agree is is vague but handset prices only differ by 30% maximum worlwide - so hand in hand if income is low so will the be the grade of handset....

Except in America where it's the complete opposite and some of the richest people have crappy S30 phones and StarTacs!

Thats beacuse mobile phone penetration is softer in the US - benefits are probably more expensive and service provoders don;t incentivise 3G enough..
But hell do you remember the Startac Rainbow !! that was a wild phone !

LMAO I don't recall ever seeing it here in the States...besides, it'd look too much like a toy, like the Firefly or something:p

It was gorgeous - hated by all on release, only small numbers manufactured but now a "legend". the below image is original - an odd phone but probably the most induvidual mass released mobile ever...

For those in the UK - may remember the Polo Harlequin - no same panel was the same colour even the stiched interior cloth....
Must be a market albeit for the visually inept...
