hanging SIM language

I just for this Fido plan off someone, and it seems as though his SIM card was programmed to have French as the default language. This isn't a big problem, but gets annoying when trying out other phones.
Is there a way to change this on the SIM card without a card reader/writer (and without changing cards)? I'm currently using a Siemens CF62 (I also have an M55) until my Nokia 6620 comes in.

I've never heard of a SIM having the default language...how do you know this? You sure it isn't the phones?
