Cool News blurb about the Moto A910.

The big question on my mind is: is it skype-compatible?

I recall hearing before (on mobileburn?) about Motorola and skype talking together before to produce compatible handsets - could this be the first one?

I'd be interested to know. It sure would suck if skype ended up being some sort of "carrier-dependent" function...(that is some how 5 times as expensive as usual :D )

But then again, if the phone is running a Linux OS, then I'd also expect that it wouldn't be hard to make a work-around for that...

Apparently it isn't quadband (according to phonescoop.com), however...that sucks; I guess Moto doesn't see a need to make that standard - but you'd think that a lot of travelling business types (who'd use quadband) would also be into this...

Could be really cool; only thing that doesn't quite work for me (personally) is that wi-fi is practically non-existent in China...(some stupid gov't BS about trying to impose their own standard)...but that's okay - it would be awesome to have this phone to use to make skype calls when I'm in an area with a hotspot...

No, it isn't Skype compat. It works with carrier based VOIP support.

Note that it is "Carrier Based VoIP Networks". Motorola and Cisco are developing hardware to provide VoIP coverage for enterprises, within their own buildings assumingly. See the press release here - http://www.motorola.com/mediacenter/news/detail/0,,5805_5773_23,00.html

Don't hold your breath on support for it either. Mot has been terrible in its handling of their linux phones.

Yeah, tell me about it. I own a Motorola A780 and the Moto support has been lackluster at best.
