Hello folks!

As part of my Ph.D project (and those of my colleagues), I'm asking for
your opinions on using motion detection to control mobile phones (and
other mobile devices as well, for that matter!). For instance, one could
shake a phone to have it perform some preprogrammed action, e.g. call to
Mom. There are a couple of such phones out there already, but it
seems that the industry is still looking for the best ways to utilize the
technology.

So, I have prepared a survey. It consists of six videos (in both AVI and
RealMedia formats) you can watch and imagine yourself using the device as
pictured in the video. For each video, you can give your opinions on
whether you would see the feature as worth having in your phone - or not.

The study is also sponsored by a major mobile phone manufacturer, so your
opinions might have also impact on real devices of the future.

The survey can be found in
here: http://www.student.oulu.fi/~spr/survey.html

With best regards,
-Sami-

Great survey, great innovative features!

the cafe slap mute thing was in new scientist magazine. It said that motorola were investigating this feature.

I do that anyway, because my phone is candybar, smacking it while its in my pocket normally diverts my calls (sometimes accidentally answers)

the cycling to initiate a call: thought that would be useful in an emergency when all you can do is flail your arms, connected to 911 (or 999)

i like this survey. Its got the right number of questions, not too much not too little.
i might base future research on this.

what did you guys say about having to activate the sensor with a button or not.?

me: not having to press the button because whats the point in having this feature that the main purpose is to use less buttons, but to use it you have to turn a button on. it might be useful in that you cant accidentally call people, e.g. emergency services. however there should be something to detect when hands are touching it.
